Blackman: God?

Can someone point me to the thread where someone claimed Blackman was God per chance? Must have been a week-end because it passed me by.

I am enjoying the team better without him for now. Let's see where we are at seasons end and all the loanees and "short termers" have buggered off back/elsewhere and let's have a look at the team then. Hopefully promotion will mean we can sign some up permanently OR we can afford suitable candidates for the Championship. I'd hate to be having the conversation on the back of us still being in this Division because it will get ugly.

He was constantly branded "our best player". This statement is false.

He was "our leading scorer"

Maybe god was a bit extravagant, IMO Best player was too

Subjective as it is, not in the professional judgement of Premiership Sunderland, Reading, or Championship Palace.

UTB

But stats can't lie in this case. Although all teams would expect to do better in games 29-35 than in games 1-7 only half of them can, since the same number of points are being played for.;)

So it's all about points then? So a team winning five games in a row by ten goals to nil is doing exactly the same as a team winning five in a row but only one nil? Or a team that draws three in a row and loses two is exactly as good as a team that gets humped four games in a row but then wins one?

By the only stats that matter at the end of the season, namely points, yes.*

*does not take into account Goal Difference

Well, who was clearly better? I can see some candidates, but no one a cut above.

I also didn't spot anyone else moving to the PL as alco says.

So tell us, who was better? Of course, you rated Monty, so I can't wait to see who you rate more highly.

I would personally have rather lost Blackman than any of the following:

Long
Maguire
Collins
Doyle
McDonald
Miller
Kitson

Blackman is a flair player. Maybe a luxury to have.

Why drive a Ferrari which is expensive to run and needs a lot of maintenance when you could have a Ford Focus which ultimately gets you to the same destination. In our case, the Championship.

Whilst I would love to drive a Ferrari, it makes more sense to drive a more practical car.

In an ideal world we could own both cars. That ideal world went when we were relegated from the Premiership

Bastard, - I had to look out of the window then to check mine was still there.

I find this thread quite laughable to be honest we will not know if it was good business or not until the last ball is kicked this season even then we could still debate our success or failure being due to the sale of Blackman. He was never a world beater and a lot of his goals were from the spot but he did offer something different from the rest and a bit of the unpredictable to our attack, at the time he was the only player at the club likely to make things happen.
While I do see where the players we have brought in have made us a more balanced and maybe better team lets not forget Forte, Higginbottom and Robson are not our players and will be gone at the end of the season, only Murphy is our player signed weeks before Blackman was pondering which club to join. To say the dealings in the JTW were some masterplan is pure comedy gold, Higginbottom was signed as cover when we were struggling to field a back four due to injury and suspensions. Now if the Forte and Robson signings were planned but just on hold until the Blackman funds were in the bank why did our esteemed leader grab the Radio Sheffield microphone to blurt out that we did not need to sell Blackman and he hoped that he would stay at the club ??? In the next sentence he informed us that whether Blackman went or stayed 2 or 3 would be coming into the club ???
BULLSHIT of the highest order right up there with the Beattie has got flu comment, in reality we have once more taken a short term gamble on loans and players well into the twilight of their careers on a last pay day and abandoned the plan of building a young team for the future. Has he thrown the baby out with the bath water or will he get lucky this time ??? who knows but way too soon to start crowing this JTW is a success.

I can answer that one metal.
