Lots of people have commented on Flynn's inability to beat defenders but Blackman has the same problem and I'm convinced it's because they both have to cut back onto their "good foot" to cross the ball. Blackman doesn't often go down the line but, when he does, the ball normally sails behind the goal. Why not play them as traditional wingers, so that they can get a cross in after beating a man, or at least let them alternate wings as we used to? Kitson must be wondering if he's ever going to receive a decent cross.

I like Flynn, however the problem is for me that he more than often gets the ball on the halfway line. We need to work at working the ball through midfield and getting the ball outwide so he is 1 on 1 with the full back in the final 3rd. He also doesn't have a full back who will overlap him so that takes another trick away. I know he is a bit like marmite to the fans and I can understand why some don't take to him.

Bit fed up of seeing Blackman on the right. Not sure if I would like to see what he could do on the left wing or just stick him back upfront again so we have some pace

You can either go through a defence or round one. I remember John Gannon dropping the ball on full backs (or cars on Shoreham Street) for Bryson and Bradshaw to cross in to Deane. We need more of that in our game.

But then that's when are the purists start going apeshit going on about hoofball

Side to face notts county , long , mcmahan,maguire,higgy,mcfazdean@ left Back,Murphy on right doyle, Mac,flynn, ironside Blackmen ? Pace in the side and play to feet instead of banging it towards kitson So he can give a free kick away.

I think thats the biggest problem at the mo, McMahon is too defensive and doesnt get forward other than for free kicks and Williams is just well er.. wank.

I prefer Blackman out wide though as his shooting isnt actually very good but he can put a good cross in and has the ability to beat a man.

Id rather play Westlake at RB until LJFs back as it gives us much more of an attacking threat at least down one wing.

I agree that TM inhibits our attacking play by simply not joining in. But at the same time it's impossible to drop him because he's twice the defender that Westlake is, plus he takes a good free kick. It's a puzzle...

Teams should attack and defend as a unit, but this season McMahon has defended while Blackman has attacked. The first time I've really seen him overlap to create space for Blackman was when we were 2-0 down last Saturday. That cannot be good enough.

If I was the gaffer I'd tell the fullbacks to bomb-on and Doyle to cover. If they get tired I'll substitute them. If they don't get tired then I'll substitute them for not trying hard enough. :)

I seem to remember when Flynn signed, Wilson said something on the lines of he's right footed but plays on the left. I imagine Blackman is on the right because of this.

Blackman can beat defenders either way although he can't cross on the run with his right foot. We need to get Blackman on the left for me.

I'm struggling to see where this myth that McMahon is a steady defender has come from. His shocking positional sense cost us the first goal on Saturday, as it has on a few occasions this season. I think people assume that because he daren't venture further than the half way line unless it's a dead ball, he must be good at defending. Sorry, he isn't. He gives away needless fouls, his positional sense is poor and he isn't very quick. Let's not let three free kicks and the fact that he wins some headers cloud our judgement.

He tries hard, but that's not enough for me.

I don't particularly rate Westlake, he's at a similarly poor level to McMahon defensively, maybe marginally worse, but he is willing to get forward and actually gives players like McDonald another outlet, meaning he doesn't have to try and hold on to the ball for too long.

We cannot rely on winning free kicks around the area for McMahon to score sometimes. We need to push on in open play and press teams.

The problem isn't Flynn and Blackman on the wings it's the two in the middle not doing their jobs right. K-Mac is a shadow of the player that was dominating games last season and Doyle is a complete and utter waste of a shirt.....get two players in the middle who can put a foot on the ball and play it wide and bingo....

Westlake's performance against Hartlepool was one of the worst I've ever seen from a Blades full back. I don't think he ever got within 10 yards of their winger.

All the goals came from his side didn't they? Right back is a big problem. Latters is right that McMahon is caught out defensively too. Away at Brentford he was in a terrible position when we conceded inside the first 5 minutes.

Yes, I think they did. He was shocking that game. That I'm advocating him playing is more a reflection on the piss poor state of affairs at the Lane, rather than a glowing reference for him.

I mentioned that we could do worse than sign Dumbaya, just released by Portsmouth and raved about by my mate who's a Donny fan. It turns out that's a shit idea though because a poster on here, I forget who, saw him have a bad game recently!?

For me, the biggest sin that he committed on that goal was stopping to claim offside, which gave the Yeovil player a couple of extra seconds to look at what options he'd got. That's schoolboy stuff and he's no youngster.
