Billy's goal drought

Hasn't scored in 4 games in which we have won 3 and drawn 1...I don't see a problem. If Billy doesn't score again this season he's still done far more than his fair share of putting us where we are. I reckon goal number 200 will be the one that clinches the title for us...how good would that be?
Next season? Think we need a good pacey striker (doesn't everyone?) but Billy will still have a big role to play and is more than capable of a 12-15 goal season.

Couldn't put it better myself. Billy kept us in this division last season, he'll be getting us out of it this season.

You really think Sharps performance last night was because of Hanson ?? Wow.
He had a bad game as all players do ,hes had a couple actually ,but he should be in there because he is always likely to score ,don't blame another player for him having a bad game though. I just wish he would attack the front post more. He had a poor game at Oldham on Saturday but still had 2 clear opportunities to score ,was that Hansons fault too ?

Billy does NOT work well off a target man. Never has done. Never will do.

If your going to set your stall out with Hanson as your focal point of the attack, Sharp may as well go down the boozer.

Now.

If you honestly believe that it is CORRECT to set your offensive stall around a slow, cumbersome non footballer in the mould of a James Hanson who can genuinely not be relied upon to pass a simple ball straight or to control a simple ball played in to him then, I for one believe this is a recipe for disaster.

Billy has scored 26 league goals. 26. Hanson has scored 1 albeit in less matches.

Maybe we should go with a prolific Hanson / Clarke combo instead ??

Tufty has this wrong. I'll stand by this ascertion with my dying breath.

In the 9 games that Sharp has started alongside Hanson Sharp has scored 8 goals. How much more prolific would you like a partnership to be?

I wouldn't drop him as he's always got a goal in him given half a chance, but I would have subbed him earlier than we did last night. I'd have looked to get Chapman up top as Millwall were pushing us well back into our own half, and I think his pace would have both forced them deeper and caught them on the break.

Hanson had to stay on last night for me even though he'd run his blood to water to help deal with their two huge centre halves and Morison, and I think it's these times when we're already in front we should look to utilise a pacey option along side him and give Sharp a break.

Been saying all season. Never takes long for the knives to come out where Billys concerned. This forums bias against him is blatant.

So the majority hate him then, which is what I've suspected all season.

Mr T, I enjoy lurking on this forum, I enjoy reading your contribution, I don't enjoy confrontation, as I see all Blades men and women as ''Good friends'' I'm sure you know what I meant. For the avoidance of doubt I see the silent majority having complete faith in Billy.

In that case I apologise for the misinterpretation.

Saw it earlier in the season with Clarke.

And previously alongside Beattie and Henderson.

Now with Hanson.

The minute you start using another CF as the focal point / target CF is the precise moment you reduce top scorer Billy Sharp to a bit part role from the flanks.

It's not a coincidence he has gone 4 games drawing a blank.

I don't "blame" Hanson for this. I have not said this.

What I HAVE said is that the two do not combine well. IMHO.

If you play Hanson you MUST go with a Nahki Wells type. IMHO. So the nearest we have would be Lavery I guess.

Sharp MUST be played alongside a proper footballing CF or he may as well warm the bench. IMHO.

The evidence is there, and it's pretty darn clear from where I sit, and will require serious consideration from the management team if we do indeed get promoted.

Not enough evidence ?

This run of goallessness can't continue. Has to be Clarke and Hanson up top next game.

The odd bit for me is WHY Billy plays so wide rather than nearer the target man. Is that where Wilder wants him?

Its simple for me he isnt going to score goals from out on the wing, im a big Billy fan and id not say drop him at all however he needs to learn how to play with Hanson, how many headers did this guy win last night and Billy was miles away from him, i appreciate partnerships take time to flourish however get closer to Hanson Billy and gamble

Not one single person has mentioned anything about hate ,apparently no one is allowed to mention any dip in form for Billy ,yet you proclaim hate and bile for almost all the rest of the squad ,apart from your lovechild Scougall.

Agree ,also wish he would attack the front post more and gamble there too.

Agree there are times to take Sharp off. And we really should be making a bit more use of Chapman, not to mention Lavery.

Last night we had nothing up front for the last 30 minutes. The ball wasn't sticking, there was no pace no movement and no threat, and Millwall were pushing up a bit. There were reasons to keep Hanson on but he gave the ball away a few times and I would've quite liked him to be taken off. Same with Sharp really. Clarke up front with Chapman and Carruthers supporting him is what I would've liked to see. Fresh legs, mobility and ball carrying ability. I feel that's what we needed.

I haven't proclaimed "hate" for anyone except McNulty, so perhaps you'd like to get your facts right.

What I have done is point out bad performances, in some cases consistently bad ones. And I've praised everyone I supposedly have an agenda against too, including Chris Basham for 3 weeks running now. Not my problem if any opinion expressed other that "everyones greeeaat" gives you the titty lip.

Pretty sure he was o_O

I read that as Cerberus Blade meaning he should have been subbed at some point at Oldham, not last night.

He does seem to find it difficult to play alongside Hanson and read the flick ons, it happened several times last night where Hanson won the ball, but Billymade a run but was so far away from him, he didn't get anywhere near the ball. More frustrating than anything.

The evidence is where? I've given my reasoning to say why you're wrong and backed it up with figures (8 goals in 9 games). All you've done is given your opinion which based on your previous counts for very little. If the evidence is there then provide it. If it's stronger than the evidence I've provided I will gladly agree with you.

Im not going to go looking but some of your special type of abuse certainly went Basham ,OConnell ,Clarkes ,Coutts and McNultys way ,and do you deny calling EEL ,'that cunt from Wolves ' ? Im sure that can be found .

Yes it's my opinion. Thought that would have been a given. Silly old me.

Your "Based on your Previous" shout is hilarious.

FYI, unless I type FACT in big bold shouty fashion, please assume what I say is my opinion ;)

To the point, And more recently, which is more relevant, as we have seen a CLEAR pattern of a more direct approach, no goals in 4 games for our top scorer in the division / country..

It's not a coincidence.

UTB

PS Hanson has 1 goal for UTD. Billy has 26. TWENTYFUCKINGSIX. FACT;)

DB, my post 78 which you may have missed. I'm not criticising Sharp, but why does he play so far off Hanson, as he did Clarke. Is that down to Wilder? Because that's not changed since day one.
