Not an automatic choice. No-one is. He was useless at times last season and offered very littlle at Bristol. Sorry Patrick, but please learn.

Not sure he would’ve made any difference whatsoever that half. Front two totally starved of the ball. Be on in ten mins anyway

Scores goals. Always has and is the only one in our squad that has done is throughout his career at every FL level.

You’re wrong.

Why are people demanding we buy two new strikers and also give Billy 90 minutes in every single game? It's a squad game

Been a number of decent crosses that needed Clarke or Washington to get in front of the centre half and they didn't

In that first half Leon’s had good movement and worked well in both boxes. Made some good clearances

Washington has made some good runs from deeper, used his pace a bit, however in and around the box he’s been waiting for things to drop rather than anticipating. I was screaming for him to make a run for Leon when Leon had the ball to the left of the D. He could’ve taken one, possibly two men away with a run towards the left corner, in doing that he could’ve given Leon the option to take a touch and smash it, play it to Washington or give the runner (Duffy I think) space.

Not sure Billy would’ve given us much more in that first half, it was clear that we were trying to get more height in the box, Johnson, Norwood and Fleck all looking to get the ball in the air.

Set pieces a let down as they seem to be getting over hit

sounds shambolic ?

Almost always toothless when we drop him. Automatic choice, sorry Chris but please learn.

A proven goal scorer is a proven goal scorer. If his threat isn’t present on the field it gives the opposition a lift.
We need two strikers under thirty. Until such time, and for the forseeable future, need Sharp to start.

Clarke was useless at times last season and hasn't even scored yet this season.

But Leon is on the pitch and Billy isn't.

Baffling.
Wilder is resting players, that should stop your bafflement.
Clarke was in the team of the season and one of the top scorers in the league. Billy wasn't.

Our only out and out goal scorer.

Until we sign another one, in about two years time when the ownership wrangle is sorted, I don’t understand why we leave him out.

Could have played Ronaldo & Messi tonight and we wouldn't have scored. That was the most sterile/abject performance under Wilder by far.

Also making 5 changes is a factor and is disruptive to the current flow, it doesn't work for the League cup and it certainly won't work for Championship.

Decent crosses, what game were you watching? Over hit, hitting the first man, yes, but decent, oh no.

First half there was a few that were begging for someone to get on the end of them.

Second half I agree they were shite

Last season Clarke often played well even when not scoring. His link up play was important. Today he offered no goal threat and not much by way of making space or chances for others.

Billy is not without his faults and is not the magic bullet some seem to think he is, but at the moment our best strike partnership is very clearly Sharp and McGoldrick.

Totally agree... plus... have them on when Duffs is fresh and creating... not when he has run his race or already been subbed off

Not playing manager but surely you start off with your best most threatening 11, get one or two up if possible and then pick them off with fresh pace in the last 30 when they are trying to attack and we can hit them on the counter?

According to Colin Murray on Quest, the last 36 games where Billy has scored, United have not lost.

OK, I've just done a quick check and Sharp's record looks even better. League games only*:

2018/19 Games where BS has scored - 4, wins - 4
2017/18 Games where BS scored - 9, wins - 9.
2016/17 Games where BS scored - 23, wins 17, draws 6.

So we've won 30 games out of the 36 in which Sharp has scored.

You've got to go back to the lamentable 2015/16 season under Adkins (where we finished 11th in Division One) for the last game that BS scored and we lost - April 30, 2016 where BS scored a pen. but we lost 1-3 at Coventry. Even before that game, Billy had scored in nine previous games (7 wins, 2 draws) after the 2-3 home capitulation to Peterboro on 2nd January 2016.

Apart from Currie and Deane, has there been a better signing? And no, I'm not giving Adkins any credit - the shit he signed far outweighs his fortune in getting Billy, something he's rapidly proving at Hull.

* Billy scored in normal time v. Hull on 14/8/18 in the first round of the Carabao Cup, but we lost 4-5 on pens. Billy scored his pen.
On 27/1/18, Billy scored the only goal in the 4th round of the FA Cup at home to Preston.

Not bad for a fat lad from Sheffield.

Have you thought that it’s because he’s being rested and not being an automatic choice is the reason he’s playing well.
I know the club have in-match GPS player data regards how much running each players does during a match.

Suspect Sharp and Duffy movement/ work rate data drops off badly during the late stages of a match.

You can bet if we leave Sharp on and lose then Sharp would be the scapegoat for not contributing.
Agree that Sharp is looking hungry when he plays but I suppose we have to trust in Wilder’s judgement.
