It happens most seasons to most clubs. Niggling injuries build up, players end up playing through the pain barrier and lose form, others get strains, it’s a long season. We thought we were up in the Wilson season, got complacent and didn’t prepare for the possibility of Evans being sent down. That over confidence combined with parsimony ultimately cost McCabe the club.
I’m a pessimist, a lot of my job is about predicting what can go wrong so I have a tendency towards doing so. I may be over pessimistic but I’ve been watching football for a long time, not just the Blades, and I’ve seen lots of clubs blow good positions. I cannot ever remember a club that didn’t sign a single player in the JTW getting promoted. That’s not to say we can’t be the first, but I think it’s unlikely. I’m not asking for us to spend millions because I know we haven’t got it, just a couple of loans or something, just to cover key positions and make us a little less reliant on Ndiaye. If we haven’t budgeted for that, we’ve made poor decisions at the start of the season.
