I can remember even away days when we only decided for definite that we were going on Saturday morning
Jumped on the train to Rotherham, Barnsley, Scunthorpe, Notts County, Lincoln and many others with 30 minutes warning when a couple of other mates decided to go

Jumped in the car at the last minute and travelled on no end of occasions when we'd finally got a car full

Or, based on the lads I went with in the nineties and early 2000's they've found other things to do/spend their money on. Which is much more likely than them being miserable twats sat at home or on the net , moaning all the time. Some do that even if they do go.

I'm offering possible reasons why, not being sarky about it
Many might have found other things to do, many might have lost interest.

But most people that have ever felt anything about United have some reason or other for not coming, because they are out there, they do exist.

My biggest frustration with us right now is, in my time being a Blade we have rarely had it this good.
And STILL our fans are not packing the Lane each week. I know there are the excuses of cost, sky games, absurd KO times etc, but really our Blades supporters need to get up off their arses, get down to BDTBL and get us a 28,000/29,000+ home gate for each of our remaining games …. we CAN do this and there will be days where the lads need that extra push from the stands. its only a few more weeks so its time to make an effort...

After years of misery finally we are UNITED , the fans, the management team, the players, FFS our armchair fans need to get down there and put a shift in too !

Chris Wilder is a living icon, if we did but know it. The fact he is one of us is unbelievable. I often think of Notts Forest and Clough / Taylor.....when you get that certain magic happening, massive funds aren't always the answer. Human spirit is something much more powerful

Only people who enjoy these kinda posts are the ones who write them, talking bullshit, the undercover pigs on here and the ordinary pigs. Funnily enough we are probably better supported now than we ever have been. There was a definite upturn in our core support from around 2003 onwards. Elder fans get all misty eyed about "40,000 regularly packing the Lane", but it's not true. We got big crowds for big games but outside of that our average attendances were around the 18,000 mark, even in the days of Sir Jimmy and Currie and Woodward.

Whatever you think of him i think Mr McCabe deserves alot of credit for increasing our Attendances.

It's an incredible time for the club and the Kop should be rocking from start to finish, but it's so far from doing so it's painful.

I appreciate away games are usually far better for atmos. But if we could recreate just 50 pc of that I truly believe it could be the difference.

When you think that Wednesday normally give away fans 4,600 tickets, it’s a big difference effecting the attendance.

I posted at the beginning of this season saying we appeared to have lost a few thousand off our home gates compared to last season -Why?

I suspected it may have been down to “second season syndrome” - the novelty of the Championship being less this time around. But it’s more than that. It’s about the ease with which fans can watch their team live by other means.

This is going to kill off the game as we know it. But it doesn’t matter to the clubs, at least not those in the top two divisions, because they’ll all get to a point when fans coming through the turnstiles are a ‘nice to have’, not an essential, or even an irrelevance. Their main income will come from sources other than fans in the future.

I’d go further and suggest fans are an endangered species and what’s worse they are killing the clubs they are supposed to support by not going to watch them in person.

Every time you prefer the red button or app to going and watching it live you are driving another nail into the coffin of football being a working man’s sport.

I fear it’s only going to get worse!

Apart from Villa and Leeds, I think that we’re more or less on a par with the rest of the better supported teams in the division, but there’s no doubt that iFollow, main games on Sky and the midweek red button, plus rescheduled game times and days have knocked a thou to two thou off our average gates and that of other clubs as well to be fair.

The clubs’ must have known the new Sky deal and iFollow would hit attendances and I suppose the plus side is that those Blades who live away or are to ill or elderly to still attend games can still watch their beloved Blades and still contribute in some way to the club’s finances through iFollow. I don’t use it myself but if the day ever came when I could no longer attend games I’d definitely consider it.

Mind you, they won’t be a spare seat next season.

All well and good making remarks about attendances - I’ve booked my mate a ticket to sit next to me in the South v Rotherham - £35!

It’s fucking expensive and that is why our attendances - which are excellent - aren’t as large as they could be.

You've been robbed, it should be £31 on the kop.Next two are category B £23. It's still robbery mind.

But why should you have to “make a slight effort” other than actually turning up wanting to pay the club money? You may be elderly and don’t have a computer or don’t even realise the club won’t let you attend until they know your inside leg measurement.

Nonsense. I know of a student that went online the other week and booked a ticket for the South Stand despite never being to the lane before. They also have landed themself a ticket for the Rotherham match.

If you want to go to the lane its easy enough to get a ticket. It is the pricing of our matches that is a bit off putting when most games are being classed as Category A.

You need to have accumalated 50 points already to get a ticket for the Rotherham match.You needed points and a customer number to get tickets for Leeds,Boro, Wendy and Derby. Probably Forest too.

There was a guy on here the other day explaining that he wanted to bring his kids to the Rotherham game but couldn't. That'll be a quarter of our home games you've needed pre existing points for by the way. I can understand it for Wendy, Rotherham and maybe Leeds, but it's completely unnecessary for the rest of the games. SYP interference?

Maybe but I was surprised at how easy it was for the student I mentioned to get a ticket for the Rotherham match.

Lots of clubs would sell more than we give them

Yes, it's easy for those who are interested and are willing to spend 3 minutes of their lives pre-buying tickets
The additional 4 or 5 thousand floating fans that would make our games a sell out just can't be arsed to do it
They are very casual fans, brought up on the basis that if they want to go to two matches per year they should just be able to turn up because the ground isn't full anyway.

Any obstacle whatsoever, no matter how small will send them scurrying away because they are only casual supporters to begin with.

Man Utd and Liverpool have the same sort of fans that can't be arsed, it's just that they've been replaced by thousands of others who are prepared to put up with some slight inconvenience if it means getting tickets

If we ever became a successful club over the next 20 years, a large number of new style fans would replace the old style fan and every seat would be pre sold without any need for relying on the casual fan at all
