Players we were excited about and expected much from, but then were just... well... utter gash (or a general waste of money)

I'll start off with:
  • Ebbrell
  • Harper
  • Sharp (second time round)
  • Dave Cotterill (after loan brilliant loan spell)

Also, Tony Battersby and Graham Anthony.

Tony Battersby might have been disappointing in the real world, but in the Virtual World of championship manager circe 92/93, he was a demon in front of goal.

Barry Hayles and Lee Hendrie for me.

Hendrie is a great shout actually.

And yet another player who financially crippled us.

Billy Sharp is way out in front for me as the biggest disappointment. Props also for Hendrie and Hayles. Everyone thought Hendrie was a great signing at the time...

Also:

Clive Mendonca the second time around.
Vinnie Jones - 700 grand for a long throw and lots of standing and clapping. What a let down.
James Beattie the second time around.
Tony Daws, after his 2 goal debut.

It was also sad that Woodhouse and Wayne Quinn never kicked on from excellent starts, though we got good money for both and sold at exactly the right time in each case...

Richard Cadette.

He was going to be the new Keith Edwards in 1987 and lead us to the promised land. He was crap (apart from one good game v Ipswich where he got 2 goals) and led us to relegation.

Go on then Dazzler. In the same vein:

Chris Guthrie. 1st 100k signing and was shite except for a hat trick against the mighty Halifax in the league cup. Led us to a fatal relegation and our longest spell outside the top flight (at the time anyway).
