Tree's blown down (no injuries per accounts I'm peased to say). Big Blades pub aint it?

I think it was due to be cut down for safety reasons, so the wind must have helped save them a job today!

I go in most weekends and I'd say it's about 80%-20% in favour of us. Some massive Blades go in actually, fair few who never miss a game no matter what.

Me and Tunsy were going to go down, but they've stopped doing Happy Hour.

Big Tree.

Just had this picture sent to my facebook page. It looks like just half of it has gone from the pic.

Not one for the RAPFA boys....

Speaking of which, I'd just like to take this opportunity to recommend The Ale House, on Fraser Road (formerly The Sheaf), near the Periwood Estate. Lots of Real Ale, always changing what's on.

Glad no-one was hurt at The Big Tree. Never my sort of pub, but I remember getting a big cheer in there from the massed Blades ranks as I walked home in my United shirt from beating Wednesday 3-1 at the Lane.

It's not the original tree that succumbed to dutch elm a dee years back. That's the tree the planted to replace it

Wasn't that the second tree?
I thought the first got pulled down by a (very random) Elephant that had been tethered to it! :D

(may not be 100% true due to being Wiki)

The Big Tree, Chesterfield Road, was once called Masons Arms but was renamed in 1936 after the large tree which grew in front of the building. Ironically by the time the name had been changed the tree in question had been pulled down, reputedly by an elephant from a touring circus that had been tethered to it. A new tree was planted in its place that lasted until the 1980s when it blew down after becoming diseased after which it too was replaced. The pub's past links are shown by masonic symbols inlaid into the floor but these are now covered by carpets. The pub was known as Brewburgers for short period in the 1980s

Not a problem. In this era of ever changing pub names, its now called The Little Tree...

Me and Tunsy were going to go down, but they've stopped doing Happy Hour.

Last went in there around 20 years ago after I got banned from the Sheaf on Fraser Rd for dancing on the tables.

I've been boycotting Chesterfield Road until our 'chairman' took down his pig rug from his shop window but he seems to have obliged at last.

Gannon and Booker went in the night we beat Wendy 2-0 when Deano nut megged Woods. I wasn't there but apparently it was a raucous affair with flares being set off in pool table pockets. Sir Bob made a brief speech when called upon which consisted of a simple "who the fack are Sheffield Wednesday".

My mate says the Ale House is decent too. In a kind of being the opposite of the Tree kind of way.

brewburgers lol i used to think that was the classiest joint in sheffield when i was about 10

It was the footballing gods that blew the tree down. This is a regular haunt for the we  hoofers to drink their pissy, fizzy lager!?

I was there that fateful afternoon/evening. A pig tried to get up and start singing Wednesday songs at one point and had the living shit kicked out of him. I don't normally condone that sort of thing.......Ahhhh bollocks he was a pig so he deserved all he got. Mate I was with was a pig and was shitting himself all night thinking he was going to be outed. It was worth leaving him hanging all night to watch him. Walked back to the top of Ridgeway Road from there and didn't stop singing all the way.

Aahhhh them were the days.

Call me daft, but if your mate was shitting himself all night, why did he just not discreetly leave the pub?

I was going to comment that that picture seems a much smaller tree than I remember. But I guess I must be remembering the one before, and memory deceived by relative size. :o
