Here in Germany FC Koln go up and down like a bride's nighty, yet every week they sell out, 52000. Fans go and if they are losing badly by half time, many go home, but they do return next home game. At the moment they are really poor, yet still the fans come. When we played them at their place, I asked a few supporters after the game why this happens. The answers were all the same. 'We start every season full of hope and almost every season that hope is dashed. They are rubbish but they are our rubbish. They represent us'. Ring any bells?
The club I am currently working with is sinking like a stone in the second division, ( I am under 21's ). We did well last season with a manager who stressed to the players the importance of playing for the supporters. The new one is all tactics, systems and preparation. It's not working, the players are not very bright and are totally confused by the multitude of instructions before a game. They do try though.
The players mingle with the fans after the game and many vent their anger and frustration then. It's quite sad to see some of the players faces when they are vilified. It seems to me there is a need for something like that in England. There are forums here and the players do read them, trust me. They do get lifted when fans on forums sing their praises and vice versa.
We all want the Blades to do well, it would certainly help me stop feeling so depressed every Saturday. How do we best achieve that? IMO, by sticking by them ala Koln. Not fighting amongst ourselves, either with fist or Keyboard.
Every season I start full of hope and then watch it get dashed, almost always. But isn't that what makes football so great? Seriously I would hate to support MUFC or the likes.
This season the supporters here have been silent for the first 12 mins and 12 secs of every game as a protest against all seater stadiums and other things. It might be that Blades fans could stay silent for 15 mins and show the current players and leadership what it would be like without them. It really affects the players.
Sorry about the long one, but I am currently snowed in and nothing else to do.
Tschuss, bis dann.
