I don’t doubt I’ll be called a dinosaur, but Wilder has always favoured playing a BIG number 9. Madine, Clarke, Mcburnie, Moore to name just a few. It was blatantly obvious yesterday Campbell is not capable of playing as a lone striker…… a target man. Service to him was shocking yesterday, but it was still way too easy for Charlton’s centre halves. He’s way more effective running into the channels. Wilder has no obvious alternatives in the squad to play his preferred style. It’s going to be a tough couple of months for Chris to get a tune out of this squad until the January window when I’m sure he’ll have someone lined up.

Nothing wrong with a big man option.

I always think you need one, even if it's not plan A. Doesn't necessarily mean you're a long ball team.

Wilder's first season was the most dominant passing and possession team I've seen us have. It was a joy to watch.

James Hanson still played a key role at times.

Not replacing Moore with someone of similar attributes is a mistake imho.

We got totally spoiled that first season and perhaps this is what people were expecting upon his return and not the awful style of play he used at the latter end of last season.

On the overall scale of things for a number 9, pace and power top trumps height every day of the week.

Not saying height can’t be useful, it can.

We have TC to come on who has none of those things !!

Doesn't matter who we put up front. If we don't create chances, we won't score. We need to fix the chance creation problem.

Already mentioned it even before the match against Charlton.

It's more of a plan B but its still worth having.

Campbell might be more effective as a lone striker if he moved once in a while, rather than standing next to his marker.
He has great pace but he never makes a run into space or beyond the defence when we’re in possession?
We definitely need to strengthen our attacking options in January, or even recruit a free agent before ? Without doubt the business we do in this area is going to be the difference between success and failure

Totally agree, a mobile number 9 who can hold the ball up, is absolutely vital for us to improve.

Ball retention in the opposition half not only allows the team to get forward in numbers, and create more chances, it also allows the defence to regroup and have a breather.

Playing 2 up top helps with ball retention but currently we haven't got anyone who gives me confidence that they're capable of nailing that responsibility.

Fuck it, I'd start both Cannon and Campbell on Saturday and tell the midfielders to play balls over the top instead of balls to feet. Cannon has had a lot of stick, and I guess it's inevitable when he's not scoring and cost a few million, but the guy has hardly a real opportunity to impress. He's come on for short sub cameos and we haven't really created any chances for him. Fair enough if we were laying the ball on a plate for him constantly and he was fluffing his lines, but I'm yet to remember too many clear cut chances he's had.

Whilst we lost, I thought our performance against Southampton was the best so far this season, however the lack of a big target man cost us again. (Along with the buffoon with the whistle)

We're unable to hold the ball up at the top of the pitch and consequently fail to sustain attacks, turning over possession far too easily.

I fear we'll have to wait until January to correct this massive problem as we've nobody in the club even remotely capable of fulfilling the role

Yousef Salech. Won even more headers per 90 than Moore last season.
