Big Jack

JOC is 'only' 27, so there's still plenty of time for him to come back.

(His partner, Alex Greenwood, scored a couple of cracking goals for England Women the other night. She's a left-sided centre back, too)

Even if all is well with the injury, and that sounds like a big if considering how long he has been in treatment, it will take him months to get back to match fitness, as they will need to break him in very gently.

I really really hope I am wrong, but it's hard to see him playing competitively again in the near future.
Absolute best case scenario is that he’s fit up to speed and ready to start next season. You’re right in what you say even if everything goes well he’s unlikely to see significant minutes this season.

Was there a Cliff Powell during Bassett’s first promotion season? Didn’t he get a career ending one too?
Yes I think he did. I remember Bassett praising him after the win at Huddersfield that got us in the relegation play off. He was only young as well.

from Wiki:

Clifford George Powell (born 21 February 1968) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender. He began his career with his hometown club Watford. Unable to break into the first team, he made his professional debut during a loan spell with Hereford United in 1987. He joined Sheffield United in 1988 where he made ten league appearances and had brief loan spells with Doncaster Rovers and Cardiff City before dropping out of professional football.[2]

What's FotMob? Link to article?

When (if...) he does return, we need to not put the weight of the world on his shoulders and trim our expectations of him. Every chance that he won't be the player he once was and we should be mindful that he's had an awfully long time out of the game. He'll take a while to get back up to speed.

I'd stick him with the U23's as soon as he's 100% ready to do so. See how he goes. But I'm aware even that might not happen if the worst is to be believed.
The likelihood that he won’t return quite the same is our only chance of him staying with us anyway.

Any more progress on Jack O'Connell?

I don't have any update - nothing new last time someone ask me I said I expect him next year

That' right. He got the injury on loan at Cardiff. Lived next door to me for a while.

That's terribly sexist of you GB.
To make amends please either withdraw your remark or if the situation does arise, post pictures of her showering so the rest of us can show respect by averting our eyes.

That's the first time anyone's ever called me sexist Peachy Buns.

We could do with an update on JOC, otherwise fans will just draw their own conclusions and we all know that most will just think he's done. If the management don't know if he could play again just say it! It's not going to change the chances either way. I expect the same answer of "we're not putting a timescale on his return" but that is just a political answer and I think it is time more info was given of his progress, or whatever really. Saying that, if the news was negative, I get that would lead to many writing him off and maybe the club are just protecting the player, for that I get it and fair play. I appreciate that this post is contradictory!

The lack of news does make me think he's unlikely to be back, hope I'm wrong.

If the player wants privacy, that’s all that should matter.
