I really didn’t rate them much on tonight’s performance but league tables don’t lie over a season to counter that .
We were absolutely worth a point a least tonight probably all 3 to be honest but games are decided on fine margins . Defensively we fell asleep on both their goals …Seriki on their first & the two centre backs on the second .
I wouldn’t have said they were defensively solid but couldn’t knock their effort & commitment.

Agreed, they blocked at least a dozen shots. If they had a ‘Roy’ the view from this forum from tonight would be similar to the ones we were lapping up last season.

They were big, dirty and direct. They got away with a lot of niggly and disrupting fouls (Onyeka and then Eccles when he came on, as well as the full backs). I wasn’t impressed, but we won a lot of games like that last season. They will need an overhaul of approach in the PL because they aren’t big or clever enough to concede that much possession to good teams and have them only score the odd goal. They’ll be like a shit Burnley.

There there was the ref to add in, who inexplicably decided to book Campbell for diving when it was a penalty. Fair enough he misses the contact, but you can’t book someone without being 💯 sure.

Then we also have the fact that we have a piss weak defence and a keeper with holes in his abdomen.

Apart from not putting chances away, we attacked well. Peck and Soumare were easily as good as their superstar midfielders that we keep hearing about.

They reminded me of us in the 2018-2019 promotion season. We were outstanding at defending the box, defending crosses and blocking shots (remember Leeds away game in particular), we had top level center backs, keeper and wing backs who could defend 1v1. We were also efficient in attack, maybe not creating a ton of chances, but finished well (the Sharp effect).

We were toothless in attack and final product tonight.

It was an excellent call by the ref on the Campbell dive which WAS a dive 100%

their crudity will be a gift for VAR, last night we would have got the penalty

We're in IBWIIWT terretory here lads.

League tables never lie.

Coventry literally blocked every shot and cross we threw at them. Then they had two goals that was easy as fuck for their attackers.

Maybe last season we don't lose that one. Did think we played OK for a draw.
I think we play zonal marking int box. They’ll never just got tight and chucked bodies at shots. We had 11 blocked to their 3.

xx 1.64 us 0.64 them

That's the thing we played overall quite well last night. But composure being the key word for me.

Not enough attacking wise meaning we fluffed our chances especially first half. And defensively we didn't hold our nerve enough especially for their two goals.

Playoffs were always a long shot. We still have to keep going to get as many points as we can as there is still alot to play for.

But there are rooms for optimism going forward.

The tricky thing this summer will be how do we balance the books to offset very much reduced parachute payments?
Be a sale or two you'd imagine. Then recruiting wisely to hopefully be in the mix for top 6 or top 8!?

It is worth noting that we will still get 20% of a PL team in parachute payments next season.
We will still get around £22m from the PL this next season if we are in the championship. This season we will have had around £49m.

nothing has changed regards chasing 6th , said with 13 to go win 10 lose 3 equals 30 points
now its 12 to go win 10 lose 2. equals 30 points was earmarked as the most difficult game v coventry

still have to play 7 of the clubs in the race win them and slowly move on upwards

on 45 points 10 wins takes us to 75 9 wins 72 , bristol city got in with 68 last season , id err on it being 71 to 75
might need to beat derby on the last day ,, Id take that

Are you sure about this? Where do you get this from? Hope you are right.

Alas we don’t get any parachute payments next season. The 20% third season payment only kicks in if you stay up for a season in the prem.

Thought Boro the better team but Coventry have just beat them
could have wun both but didnt =thats football

WE have two centre-backs, Tanganga and Bindon, who are both Slow. Peck and Soumare are both defensive midfielders. You should have one, in my opinion. Too much passing in our own half, should be quicker and attack more, rather than slow build up, giving the ball to the opponent. coventry defenders blocked the shots/passes. We used to play like the Coventry defence block anything. their counter attack was good. We missed a couple of chances and had penalty decisions turned down again. The referee was poor. I think Cooper should have saved their ist goal. the second goal was bad marking by our defence. Chris Wilders used to say block everything, win your tackles, etc. I dont think we can make the playoffs, we are not good enough. I hope I can be proven wrong.
