Hoorayyyyyyyyyy

The penny has finally dropped for SUFC that we need a fuckin out and out stopper who can head and kick clear at the back. It's only been obvious since JOC got crocked...still better late to the party than not at all.

I've really missed an "ave it" row Z, if in doubt, kick it out centre half ;)

I’m curious as to peoples opinions here.

if we are signing a CB who are we dropping and how are we playing?

Jack Robinson into a taxi back to Liverpool. Realistically we need one for cover/ competition and hopefully to succeed either Davies at the end of the season or bash when he hangs his boots up.

I’d agree. I don’t think any incoming is going to make any difference/change to the starting 11

which also gets me thinking that we have Lopata coming back and I’m not sure I see the point in this now unless someone is getting sold..

If we’re going to play 3 at the back I’d argue we need 5 centrebacks to cover for injuries/suspensions. Currently contracted established first team players we have two not counting jacky long throw

CBs at the club with experience of league football:

Egan
Basham (33)
Davies (loan)
J Robinson (contract up at the end of the season

That's it.

If Egan was to break his leg tomorrow then I have no idea what we'd do.

I agree completely we need cover for the position. My concern now is our No1 transfer target is cover.

I think Lopata might come back in to deputise, not ideal for his development, but he'd only be 1 injury away from featuring regularly.

I also think we'll look in the lower leagues for an extra backup CB. As above, i want someone who's nails, can see out a 1-0 win and organise a defense singlehandedly, someone who kick arses if anyone falls out of line, may be not particularly skilled but just grafts and gets stuck in.

Worked out well for Maguire. If he was left footed i think he’d already be in the team.

I think James Hill would be a great signing and the best one we could feasibly make but looking at transfermarkt and the players they’re saying are out of contract in 2022 presents some decent options:

  • Kortney Hause is probably the most ambitious name on this list but he’s perfect, left footed, great in the air and although he’s only an injury away from the villa team he doesn’t play regularly and they’re rumoured to be looking at defenders
  • Darragh Lenihan seems unlikely with Blackburn doing so well but he’s been stalling on a contract and would be a good signing if we could get him
  • Alfie Mawson big part of Heckingbottom’s Barnsley side and not played much for Fulham
  • Daniel Amartey played 8 times for Leicester this season but he’s not part of their future plans I’m guessing and always thought he’d be a solid option to replace Basham
  • Panos Retsos not the best option due to injury problems but been here before (briefly) and is still young

I can’t see us spending money on transfer fees until we’ve sold and released a number of players, perhaps over two windows.

We need 2 big uns , not just 1.
Davis is powderpuff + neither he nor Bash nor Robinson can play CCB if Egan unavailable - we are literally on the bones of our arse now that Lopata is out injured.
We haven't addressed this since JoC was crocked , which is pure negligence by the club.

We need a dominant CB. Retsos would be a poor option.

A player I've always liked is Choudhury at Leicester. Unsure if he'd be available for loan or if we'd stand any chance, but I think he'd be a fine player at this level and give us what we need in the middle of the park.

Jack Tucker at Gillingham could be a good option. Big fucker who has already made over 100 appearances at 22 and his contract will expire at the end of the season.

Gillingham are in a lot of financial trouble so could be happy to sell at a cut price although there's a bit of talk about them wanting to let his contract run down and getting money via tribunal as they think they might get more money that way.

I’d take him in a heartbeat. Also fits the stated aim from the last press conference young player with a good pedigree and room to increase in value as an asset. He’s likely cost between 1-3 million to buy but would hold that value if he was even an average championship centrehalf during the course of his contract.

There’s a big difference between addressing it and addressing it successfully. How often do we fail in the second stage ?
