Bid on it's way for Jamie Murphy?

Bidding war could be good, give the funds to strengthen central defence/centre mid where we need help

I'm all for keeping Murphy here, but at least this will enable us to strengthen with more quality in areas we are most lacking, for example CB and ST. Losing a winger would not be the end of the world by any means. We are not particularly weak in that area so if we are to sell a player, of all areas it would be best to sell a player in that position.

If Murphy does go then we will need to strengthen more than the positions you mention which would set us back even further. If you want to be the best in your respective leagues then you have to keep your best players, it can't be any simpler.

While true, we'd just need one replacement. We have enough forwards as it is. I'm saying only sell in the situation where we're getting far in excess of Murphy's value, which'd allow us to bring in a replacement (although if that replacement is Sharp then I'll be furious) and have funds left over to strengthen areas of current actual need.

You will do well to find a player of Murphys calibre who we can get for a low fee with low wages and who will drop to this league, i'd rather we didn't have that problem mate 'tbh'. If there is one out there then by all means grab him but i doubt there is without taking a gamble on someone and we really can't afford to be taking gambles this season. Ultimately, Murphy would be a great loss.

Unless Murphy himself (or his agent) instigate a move (which would go against everything he's previously said about his time at the club), I really can't see the club's hierarchy or Adkins agreeing to it unless the fee was ridiculous and made it a no-brainer i.e. around £5m. Circa £1m certainly doesn't fall anywhere near that catagory.

Unless DCL is deemed worthy of a regular first team start (which I don't think he is (yet!)) or that a replacement of equivalent (or better) ability is lined up, why would Adkins even contemplate losing one of his (if not the) best player in the side?

Agree with those sentiments, I've read comments suggesting we sell Murphy for an unrealistically low figure, then go out and find a replacement, which of course suggests there are plenty of similar quality just waiting to be purchased. If there are players of similar quality available why don't Brighton, Fulham, or whoever, buy one of these instead? We need to focus on quality, not quantity, and Murphy has the talent, alongside other quality players, to get us promoted.

£1.5m for one of the best players in L1?

Your having a giraffe!!!!

If Fulham can pay 11 million for that Leeds striker, I think £1.5 can easily be dismissed.

Couldn't agree more Wiz and I think JM will be one of a number of players who will benefit from the positive approach, different on-field set up and excellent man management skills of our new gaffer.

When has United ever sold a player and replaced him with someone as good never mind better ? It just never happens when we sell our star player even going back to the day we sold Mick Jones, on the contrary the season after relegation usually follows. Sell Murphy and we say goodbye to a player who scored close on 20% of last seasons meager total of goals, it would be suicidal in terms of our promotion bid, and send out the message that the board have very little ambition.
