if it's 200k and above....good deal. Only one year on his contract, and big wages off the wage bill
if its nowt or above its a good deal. I dont mind Monty but we need to save money on a wage that we dont need to pay out

Bit more from one Millwall site today. They suggest that the only fee would be to buy out the rest of Monty's contract.

Millwall target Montgomery can leave Sheffield United for free

SHEFFIELD United have told Nick Montgomery that he can join Millwall for nothing this summer.
Montgomery has a year left to run on his current contract but the League One club will write that off should the Lions want to sign him.
The Leeds-born midfielder moved to The Den on-loan in March but his spell was cut-short by a calf injury after just 20 minutes of match action.
Boss Kenny Jackett has previously admitted he would consider signing Montgomery on a permanent basis, but it is now thought that the 30-year-old is behind at least two players in the club's shortlist of targets.
NewsAtDen understands Montgomery's Blades teammate Kevin McDonald, who is out-of-contract, is another name under Jackett's consideration.
Sources close to McDonald, 23, say he is likely to reject the offer of a new deal at Brammall Lane and move to a Championship club.
The former Scotland U21 international made 31 appearances last season, scoring three goals.

surely if Mcdonald was to leave it would be to a better club than Milwall?!
Monty can go - thanks for the service mate but you just a burden on the clubs wage bill now...

we need a few things to start moving so DW can try and rebuild a promtion chasing team ;)

"Sources close to" i.e. his agent
a better club than Millwall = that certainly isn't us though is it?

sadly not and that's shocking, what i meant was, they finished bottom half and don't seem to play the style of football suited to his game. i thought one of the teams from the top half would be in, hopefully the fact he's prone to injury puts people off...............maybe that's wishful thinking

I believe it is wichful thinking as I really cannot see K Mac staying in the third division with us for another season if a Champ club comes in for him. The rationale being that even if it's a lower half team he will be performing in a league above and must have enough confidence in his ability to then attract a prem team. He will view the next move (as his rehabilitation with us) as a stepping stone to better and more lucrative times.

That said, I understand that a lot of the players are away on holiday (well you would if you had just completed a physically demanding and ultimately disappointing, mentally draining season, wouldn't you?) and have not decided on what the future holds for them. I suspect the next couple of weeks will see some progress around negotiations. Thoses that do not agree to stay will then go through the process of working out deals with other clubs and move on - leaving Danny to move for the replacements he has identified.

What I am sure about is that the quality of the squad will be lower (potentially much lower) than it was last season because we are bound to lose people we don't want to get rid of. Would be delighted if we do capture Stuart Beavon, as the rumours indicate and that lad from Bradford, Nakhi Wells

Not sure personally about letting monty go for free, surely DW would want some sort of fee to add to his transfer kitty. I reckon K Mac will stay as well, as he has been transformed by Danny and missed out on Wembley. I know if I was him I would want to make amends for that in particular.

macdonald is hardly likely to want to go to a club that covet nick montgomery surely??

The massive saving on wages will be like getting a fee for him.

We can't change the fact that he's been a Blades player for a long time but now he's too expensive for the division we find ourselves in and more importantly he does not fit in with how we are trying to play. Good luck to him wherever he goes unless of course he's playing the Blades!

This is what Jacqui Oatley thought of him in 2009:

I stopped reading that article when she said that Steve Bruce was the most underrated manager. The man's a dinosaur.
