Best XI from United's three top flight promotion winning teams

My dad was a big fan of Willie Hamilton too. Alex Ferguson said in his autobiography that he heard the great Jock Stein saying that Hamilton was the most talented player he has ever worked with but he despaired of his lifestyle. Interesting to see that Stein thought Hamilton was more talented than any of the players he managed at Celtic and Scotland! It looks like John Harris got fed up of Hamilton's lifestyle too so he sold him to Middlesbrough in early 1961.

Rolls Royce of a player. Just oozed class.

I think the drink killed him young.

Not upset at all mate other than by the fact that my stellar 'humour' does not always come across. I'd use a smiley if it wasn't for the fact that I hate the American-teenager-Silicon Valley-'fun'-shite little bastard wanker things...

Given you obviously weren't around to see Len De Badger, TC and Woody, your team looks half decent. I wouldn't have Agana however as despite two cracking promotion seasons, he never did it at the top level. I always thought so much of his game was down to form (the 'Agana bobble') rather than genuine class.

Please feel free to call me a twat, as I generally am one.
I didn’t even see Agana to be honest! My first game was April ‘91, 2-2 with Spurs, can’t remember who partnered Deano that day but don’t think it was Agana. I was just trying to pick all the stars from the promotion teams without any thought to a system.

I actually think picking a 3-4-1-2 overlapping centre backs version of historical teams is good fun now we’ve established it as an effective system. Look at England in the 00s:

James
Terry Ferdinand Carragher
G Neville Beckham Gerrard A Cole
Scholes
Owen Rooney

Seen three too....but like the current system and set up and style of play.

I think the current players would possibly be better quality than most of the last few promoted squads. So...

Tracy
Baldock
Stevens
JOC
Jags
Bash
Fleck
Norwood
Deane
McGoldrick
Agana

Now THAT would be a side that had a bit of everything, providing we get the players in their prime.

how any one can leave Egan out is beyond me

outstanding centre back, our vergil van dyke
morgan was hard as nails, but in footballing terms, not even a contest
in a 3 man defence often left on his own as the other 2 surge forward , but can do it

others dont come close
