So said Wilder in the summer. Had a top half team, added an £18m keeper, £23m striker, highly rated young international player from Chelsea on loan for the season, £10m or so on new squad players where there was little cover last year. And now in mid February with 14 games to go it's already mathematically impossible to even match last season's points total. Fucking pathetic.

Those added in the summer are not the problem.
Ramsdale was good tonight as was Ampadu.
The “squad” players you refer to include Bogle who is becoming one of our best players.
The problem, apart from injuries, revolves around Lundstram,Norwood and Stevens

I agree with how you presented that but Brewster has been a massive £23m own goal. We needed a creative midfielder more than anything in the summer, we all know that.

Could hard say the Prince is fucked due to having to pay McCabe off, so had to settle for 4th choice targets, could he? That’d have been right good for morale, wouldn’t it?

Show me the post from the summer, where you said Brewster, Ampadu and Ramsdale were poor signings. If you can’t do this please go back to playing FIFA hindsight manager

One of the biggest mistakes was not using our full loan allocation. Another prem loan and a foreign loan was surely a no brainer

Mainly the bleeding obvious bit. Though having an easy dig at the team comes a close second.
We are where we are. Most of us aren't blind so don't need reminding every 42 seconds.

So you throw a "GET TO FUCK" in the mix? Reyt.

Brewster is / was a potential premier League striker. That’s what you get for that money at this level. A proven PL striker would cost triple that. Admittedly we haven’t bought Aguero or Vardy but Brewster will be (and had already been) a good Championship striker, which is exactly what we’ll be needing next year

I agree on the midfielder point but I don’t think Brewster was/is a mistake in the long term.

I'm happy with good long term signings, not so good with us going down when we could have spent the money elsewhere.

We were always going to get more injuries given COVID and the contracted season. Every team has had them.

It was fairly criminal that we didn't use all our loan slots but instead relied of players who are clearly not good enough (Rodwell, Jags, Bryan, Robinson) which is coming back to haunt us. No decent defensive cover even though we knew Jack had a problem. 20 odd million splashed on a player who isn't even starting.

And yet, next season we're going to have to replace Rodwell, Jags, Bryan, Robinson and Lunny. Probably Berge as well. We're basically stuck with the strikers we have (including two who will be 70 between them) got and not sure where we're going to find new midfielders from. Burke is a bit of a spare part. Sure, he's good at pressing and in certain games but teams will sit back against us and defend so will be likely little use.

Norwood has shown he's just not good enough at the top level so in the long-term we need to replace.

Who knows how JoC will come back after a knee injury. I can't see him being able to get forward as much.

Fun times.

This endless and repetitive self flagellation about last summer's transfers is tired, pointless and frankly, fucking boring.

Yes we know mistakes were made, but the coaching staff made decisions and did their best at the time with the money available.

How many threads are we going to have pointing out the obvious, over and over and over again?

Haven't you started a thread having a dig at the team?

I think chucking Lundstram in with Norwood and Stevens is a little unfair. Those two have gone backwards and their replacements in Berge and Osborn have spent much of the season injured. Unfortunately Lowe doesn't look ready to play at LWB just yet.

That said this was clearly not a great window by any means. Ramsdale and Brewster may prove their worth in the coming years but the failure to sign players for the here and now along with attacking options in midfielder is criminal in my eyes.

The alarm bells were ringing for me when Wilder said about it being the best transfer window ever.

I didn’t think any one of those signings improved the first 11. Brewster was maybe exception to that but look how that’s turned out so far.

Agree with the point about the older guard letting Wilder down though. He put his faith in them to replicate the levels they hit last season, yet they’ve failed miserably.

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Last season's success deluded Wilder, the fans and the players into thinking we're already a Premier League level team and our players were Premier League quality so we didn't improve the side. In the long run, we'd have been better finishing 4th from the bottom by one point as a wakeup call that players like Norwood, Enda, Lundstram aren't up to it.

Then again, I still wouldn't trust Wilder to sign any decent replacements given the money he's spunked away on garbage. Bogle is a good signing and I actually rated Besic but Wilder never played him.

Just discussing here , Brewster not a mistake, I think he’s the worst signing at the Lane for a long time , he shows absolutely nothing , he’s like a lost child on the pitch , the reason we’re where we are where we are is solely down to our strikers not been able to put the ball in the net . McBurnie useless at this level , Burke shows pace but has no composure and can’t shoot straight, McGoldrick ( love him) but lacks that killer instinct which showed last night , moose don’t even go there Sharp can score but has his limitations Hackford came on for 10 minutes in one game and looked quite good and was never seen again ??

Finishing 9th last season was a real opportunity to add some real quality to the team we failed massively.

Had we not wasted all our money on Brewster and not had our pants pulled down on with Ramsdale we could of got a Benrahma, Eze or a Buendia, who of which was definitely within our reach.

Some on here just never, ever learn, do they? Not been here for 2 minutes and he’s the worst signing! In fact all 3 are still babies in football terms. Sometimes in life you have to take one step back to move forward? This not only applies to players but management as well.

We need to be relegated from the Premier League in order to get in the Premier League? Oh, now this season makes sense.

I don’t think you can judge a young striker in his first Premiership season playing in a team which creates little
If he fails next year in the Championship then he was a mistake.
This team has conceded almost two goals per game. That is not the fault of the strikers.
