1980 because that's when I started going regularly and you've got to draw the line somewhere.
I've not included loan players or those that only played a handful of games...
Who do you reckon?

I voted Nilsen. Thinking back,. we've had a ton of possible left backs over the years, no David Barnes or Tom Cowan on this list either.

Nilsen was a touch of class, comfortable on the ball, didn't really suit Bassett's teams at all :D

Nilsen was the best of those. Quinn had a season or two when he looked like he could be real quality, but faded. Loved watching Joe Bolton play, or more specifically, tackle!

I went for Armstrong. Nilsen was alright but Stretch had a bit of spark about him. If you were doing wing backs it would have been Whitehouse.

Nilsen, despite his occasional catastrophic mix ups with Kelly. Helluva penalty, too!

Jon Harley anyone?

Ian Rush for me, should have been left back in the dressing room. AMARITE?

I considered Harley but I thought it best two spells for us were while he was on loan (2002-2003 season). His form seemed to drop off when he signed permanently.

I did forget a certain Mr Unsworth though. Sshhh!

He only played a few games for us in that position, but i'd consider Naughton a better left back than quite a few on that list....

I went for Quinn. He was an excellent full back and really excelled in that wing back position. I am judging him just by his form at United, not after he left. He could defend and got forward really well.

Nilsen was a close 2nd, but I always preferred Roger at centre half.

Even though they played RB but a few time they did play LB for us I would go K.Naughton and Kyle Walker

Definately Nilsen. Classy as well as a good defender. Was wasted at us and would have shone in a good (ie. top 6) team. In fact when he went on loan to Spurs he got MOM on his debut (at Newcastle if I remember correctly).

Nilsen was a complete defensive liability who had the uncanny knack of not picking up his player leading to the rest of the defence being all over the place covering his arse.

Most overrated player at BDTBL for 25 years. In my opinion.

Kozluk? Awful right back but much better at left back as it wasn't his natural position and therefore he seemed to put more thought into what he was doing.

Ive gone for Joe ,best of a bad bunch. The one position we have struggled in most since ive been a Blade ,I didnt even think Hemsley was that good.
