but overall based on the form of the last 6 and last 10 matches in the league, we are well out of the relegation mix. .
you can do anything with stats. Based on the last three league games we are going down.Based on all the away league games this season,we will need to win 7 of the remaining home league games to stay up. As the team appears to lacking mental strength away from home at the moment,I am struggling to select where those 7 home wins are going to come from.

If we get a tough central midfield player,an experienced centre half and a goalscorer we have a good chance of staying up.Don't get them and Division 4 will be welcoming us with open arms.

I would like to live in your world because it is so much better than the real one where in the last year we have won about a dozen league mtaches and scored about 40 goals...fuck me Ronaldo score 15 more on his own and not against the likes of Hartlepool and Stevenage.
I was once introduced to your brother...... he seemed a really nice bloke ;)

What comes next then? Calling for Clough's head with 10 games left of the season?

I don't want to argue but I just can't see where all this negativity has come from. Ok we could have had a few more points than we have picked up over the last few games but overall based on the form of the last 6 and last 10 matches in the league, we are well out of the relegation mix. In comparison to what we were a few months ago we are growing and growing and still have 60 points to play for in the season! It is simply unreal.

Some of the football that we are playing at the moment is better than that under Danny Wilson and this is with what can only be described as a weaker team than what he had. We are coming very close to winning more and more games and it WILL come I put my neck on the line. When you dominate games and create as much chances and we are then it will fall into place we just have to be patient and allow it to happen.

The extra players will HELP us to do this but never the less this team are proving that they are capable of turning things around. Negativity snowballs and for me it is all an over-exaggeration and to be fair is unnecessary. We all want more course we do, we all want the prince to open his wallet and sign a few billy big bollox, we all want to see us winning every game, we all want promotion, we all want everything for our club because we are all blades and we love our club!. But all things considered, looking at the bigger picture we are heading firmly in the right direction, we have turned a corner and if we continue to progress how we are doing then we can look forward to some exciting times ahead hopefully.

Hold on am I mistaken ? Have we recently played Stevenage, Oldham, Tranmere, Notts Co all hanging around the bottom four, Bradford in the lower half of the table and Walsall the only decent side we have faced since Xmas and only managed to beat one of them ? It works out a ONE POINT per games RELEGATION FORM god help us when we play Brentford and Peterborough if that is the best we can do, some improvement. And no no one is calling for Clough's head, but just a little bit of backing for him from the owners would be nice because as we are .................... staying in this division is by no means certain.
Sorry if this makes me negative, just the way a lot of posters see things I'm afraid. Sorry if you think negativity snowballs by that reasoning with all the positive true Blades fans we should really be European champions.

Changing the manager would have no bearing on us going down. I don't think anyone including Metal wants to lose Clough. The point remains that the players, most will a lack of character are not good enough and we need to get in 3 players now. I obviously you expect you to gloss these points over with a three page essay but for gods sake, get your head out of the sand.

Never mind though we score 2 aginst Bradford yesterday and secured a point against a team who have won less than us in the last 3 months. The reason negativity snowballs is because many people can see what is happening and do not clap like the King of the Seals being fed sardines from a bucket.
Time of the month ?

What's the difference between spirit and character/resolve?

In a footballing context I would relate the word "spirit" to team spirit and enthusiasm. As for "character" or "resolve" I'm referring to the ability not to buckle under pressure or make the right decision when the opposition asks a question of us.

Time of the month ?
Yes in a way because we have just secured out 1st league point of the month on the 18th day. Keep this up and we should ensure we don't need any points in the merry month of May as we will already be relegated.

Fair enough. Must admit though, I can't separate them. I think a team with spirit won't buckle because each player feels an obligation to his buddies and a belief in what the team is doing which is directly sourced from team spirit.

I can see how a lack of quality or professionalism could lead to collective lapses, and that's where I'd lay the blame.

I understand what you're saying. My overall point is that we have a decent group of lads with a positive attitude towards winning football matches. They let themselves down at critical moments though and it's normally as soon as the opposition apply some pressure.

Too many instances of late where a ball is delivered into the edge of that six yard area and no one takes responsibility. It's something Clough really needs to work on with the players. That second goal yesterday was easily avoidable and for all the blame Long received most seem to be ignoring the fact that none of our defenders attacked the cross.

I'm not fortunate enough to play at the same level as some of those lads but as a centre back I would have eaten that cross.

I'd welcome all those additions, but is it just the mental strength that's been missing from the last couple of away defeats?

I think it gives us a very different balance when we take out our quickest and most attacking wideman, and replace him with a 'solid', hard working central midfielder playing out of position. Murphy's running on the ball is so important when it comes to stretching the opposition, making us less predictable and opening up space for others, especially Baxter and Flynn.

As well as the different attributes, the management sends out a signal when making such a change, prioritising solidity. It goes hand in hand with more defensive tactics worked on in training - do not take risks, do not push forward too much, make sure we've enough players behind the ball.

I think the Tranmere match was a break through for us in terms of attacking play, and Clough has said that was how we want to play like at home. The balance we had in midfield that day (similar to the win against Swindon) brought very positive performances against Aston Villa and Bradford. We've tried making the defensive tweak twice and it's given us two defeats.

When he came here Clough prioritised defending and making us hard to beat. Maybe it's time to see now if a slightly more attacking approach can get us better performances and results away from home as well?
