There are a large number of people here and no obvious winner...

Designated joke candidates are Woodward, Beattie, Croissant and Onuora (the latter two never actually played a first team game in the shirt - cue lots of breakfast jokes about M. Croissant). Vote for them and your vote won't be counted unless you post a reason in the thread.

Please also note Kabba is already in the squad as no.11, so if he wins this one, the runner up gets in.

Players wore other numbers as follows:

Woodward: no.15 2000-01
Croissant: n0. 33 2001-02
Onuora: no. 39 2002-03
Gray: no. 8 2004-05
Kabba: no. 34 2002-03, n0. 15 2003-04, no. 11 2005-07
Tonne: no. 24 2011-12, no. 20 2012-13
Maguire: no. 40 2011, n0. 5 2012 -

I've gone for Smith, the only shining light at the start of Heath's half season...

Very much a bag of rubbish this one...

So a vote for Jordan Stewart would pass muster then? Maybe, just for his impersonation of a right winger whilst Cotts was sat on the bench in Hoofy's finest tactical manouvre, then . . . . . .

Nah, couldn't do it. Went for Smith who probably won't be popular due to his money grabbing decision to jump ship, but who I thought was a class act and superb finisher.

As true as that might be, it doesn't have an effect on whether he was the "best" player. I totally concur, he was class, which is why he was only around for 6 months or so...

'The Lion of Hillsborough' for me.

EDIT: its been a long week, thats my only excuse. I'll vote for him in any case just for giving a Glasgow kiss to that twat McInnes

I want to vote for Keef, but as good as he was on our way up the league, on the way back down he was an absolute turd.

And wasn't Kabba injured for much of the time he wore that shirt?

Gillespie had 2 good years out of 4, which is better than anyone else on that list. He was also someone who looked at home in the Premier League, which is to his credit.

It's funny how much worse this bunch is as a group than the number 18s.

He was. He came back in around Feb 2005 and scored 2 v Crewe at home the following month, but those were his only goals that season.

Keef it is then. At least he got us promoted even if what he did next should have earned him a shoeing.

The cross in for the first goal against Leicester on the first day of the season (if im not disremembering): class.

The first goal was a Gray pen and Gilliespie wasn't even on the field then :-)

You may be thinking of the last goal in the last minute when Gilliespie (by now on as sub) sent a cross over from the left and Bromby ghosted in at the back post to chest it in.

Gillespie without a shadow of a doubt. Twat or not, he was a class act. Always liked him when he was young at Newcastle and thought it was a shame he lost his way a bit. He was quality for us. He can go in the bracket of Cowans, McCall etc in that he was a big name, in the twilight of his career, that delivered. He had a touch of class, good vision, passed well and was dangerous going forward. He lacked mobility somewha, but changed his game and made up for it. He was excellent in the promotion season and looked at home in the Prem. Shame it all went sour, but Keeef is easily the best Blades player on that list.

When we were in the Premiership Keef really stepped up and was influntial at times, none more so then his superb strike vs. Charlton at home circa late December 2007... Darren?
