Best Header

As others have expressed , I’m also a sucker for a diving header .

One of the best and certainly the bravest I ever saw was by Jim Bone , who in a match we had dominated but not found a way to score (might have been against West Ham ) , flung himself knee high in a crowded penalty area to guide the ball into the bottom corner and give us the victory we deserved .
v Palace in April 1973?

Afraid I was playing football regularly during the 1982-83 season which was probably the fewest times I attended matches at the Lane since I started going regularly in 1970. I can only remember seeing Young score a hat trick in the FA Cup replay against Boston. I dont remember seeing much of Terry Curran too although I wasnt against signing him in the summer.
Keith Edwards, bullet header from edge of the box from a corner, frosty Friday night v Chelsea, think we won 1-0 , seem to remember Kerry Dixon in their line up, maybe late 70's ?

Chico Hamilton scored from a penalty when we beat Chelsea 1-0 on a Friday night in December 1976. Kerry Dixon was a schoolboy at the time and joined Chelsea in 1983, played for Reading against us in the early 1980s.

I was only 11 at the time so my memory maybe a little hazy, but I recall Tony Kenworthy scoring a fantastic bullet header against Peterborough in the 4-0 win, at the kop end last home game in May 1982. My memory of it is that he was just inside the penalty area when he headed it, however there's no footage so I could be wrong.
This was my first ever utd match

Exactly this. Jones was at least 30ft in the air, or so it seemed to my 8 year old self was directly behind the goal. Also Gil Reece diving header in the 7-0 victory over Ipswich in 1971...
correct mick jones would start his run at the corner of the penalty area and woody would ping his corner as hard as he could on to mick jones head.went in like a bullit stepney never moved

I hated Andy barnsley and that header was on my birthday!
was that pne game when we scored three very late on in front of the kop? former piggie jemson was playing for them. also didn't brian smith break his leg that game
Andy Barnsley against Bradford in March 87. Bullet header in the top corner at the Kop end in the first minute.

Also diving header from Stan at Lane end , April 89 against Preston.

Only trouble is that both were in the united goal...

Best thing for me was that he had done exactly the same thing a few minutes earlier but had the goal disallowed.
Made that second one so much sweeter!

Thats the one.

Deane put us one off after about 75 mins and straight from the PNE kick off, they lost the ball and a through ball put Agana one on one with the keeper and it was 2-0. About five mins later Duffield made it 3.

Job done, we thought, but then with about 5 mins to go, the Stan OG made it 3-1 and a couple of mins later PNE hit the bar with a cracking free kick, so we were sweating a bit at the end.

Brian Smith did indeed break his leg in that game due to him going in fully committed to a 50-50 about the half way line. Sadly, he never played again, though he stayed on the books until late 91 and had a testimonial at the end of that season.
