Sabella , beagrie , colin morris , woody Both of them Alan and Paul , Brooks = sell sell sell ffs .

Surprised Mr Duffy isn't getting much love... hes made a few defenders look silly over the last 2 seasons.
Especially back in September

Sabella had potential (sadly wasted in the lower Divisions), but ... there can be only one ...
<----
TC: all day, every day & twice on Saturdays ...

Sabella's Brain worked so much faster than the players around him. Pity, Then like so many players back then got sold on to the Dirties.

It has to be TC, predictable I know but he is far & away the best flair player I have seen at BDTBL. Plenty of other superb footballers have turned out for us over the years, but for flair TC is imperious. I think that with better players around him we would have seen more from Sabella, he is the only other truly flair player that comes to mind.
Seeing that Tony Field goal above reminds me of something I have said before, that TC was on record as saying that in training Field was absolutely brilliant, but for whatever reason he only showed it in glimpses on match days.

Lord Currie of Shoreham and Sir James Hagan by a long , long way and to say that one was better than the other is a bit like saying that Zeus was better than Apollo , or vice versa .

Tony Currie and Alex Sabella have been the only ones with outrageous skill on a totally different level to the sides in recent years.

For anyone who never saw Sabella he was a fantastic dribbler and able to go past players but the weird thing is he was very slow. It eems impossible to believe that a slow player can dribble past players. It was his lighting quick feet, close control and body swerve.

In recent years I would say Cotterill, Matt Phillips and Nick Blackman.

Pretty much on the nail that for me.

Another player, much-maligned, who had terrific close control and skill was Patrick Suffo. We tend to only think of him because of his lunatic moments - but he was one hell of a talented player too.

I'd have to mention Colin Morris as well - he was a great dribbler of the ball. As was Gil Reece on his day. And Tony Field too.

Quite right Joe. So which one was the best coffee shop in the Castle Market then, Zeus or Apollo? :)

I always thought Glen Cockerill was very underrated.

He was a great player wasn't he? I can't understand how he spent so many years playing in the lower leagues with Lincoln City before we eventually signed him. I remember times many, playing Lincoln and him giving us a right old towsing. He was all energy, had a great range of passing, and a fair bit of pace. He had no neck though. So he loses points for that.

The Australian Messi.

David Carney

(I couldn’t find a montage of his greatest moments for United, because he had no great moments for United)

Tin Hat on. I liked Carney!

The Australian Neshi more like. I thought Aussie sportsmen were supposed to be tough?

Carney could have been very good but sadly for him had to play under the footballing geniuses that were Bryan Robson and Kevin Blackwell. Weren't Bayern Munich after him when he played for us?

Playing Aston Villa in the FA cup, I remember watching Hodges make Savo Milosovich look like a twat with a little drag back that saw him slide flat on his arse.
And if memory serves, didn't Hodges let him get back up before doing it again?

I always thought Glen Cockerill was very underrated.

Traditionally the really skilful players with flare have tended to be lazy and/or highly strung mavericks.

However Glen Cockerill was a real worker, great attitude maximising his talent. Great all rounder, good at everything.
In that respect he has similarities to Kevin Keegan.

I had a friend who was a Lincoln City fan and when we bought Cockerill, he told me we’ve got a bargain and he would quickly become our best player. He was correct, you could tell his allround game deserved a higher status.

My generation TC, previous generation JH. After that it thins out a bit and we don't get many, though a few get mentioned on this thread. Mentions for a couple that weren't really flair players, but had bit of something about them. Colin Morris, not your typical tricky winger of the day, but a great ability to develop a yard of space and get the ball in the box. The other was Kevin Arnott, gifted on the ball with a good range of passing and could score the odd belter.

TC, Sabella and Hodges are the 3 obvious stand outs for me, but 3 superb flair players that we signed a bit too late to see them at there best were Gordon Cowans, Don Hutchison and Jimmy Johnson.

That said, I think Cowens and Hutch did ok for us and showed us the odd glimpse of just how good a players they were, but the genius that was wee Jimmy was unfortunately well past his best by date.

Yep I liked Glen. My mate didn’t, he called him ‘No Neck’, he reckoned he missed too many easy crosses because his neck was non-existent.

Wouldn't say he's the best flair player ever but Campbell-Ryce could beat a man quite easily, however he'd turn back and try again & again & again...

& his crossing, well we'll just leave that.

Borbokis. He made his debut in that Sunderland match in 1997 and I remember people being open mouthed in amazement at the standard of player we'd got on our hands.

For anyone who started watching in t the late 60s early 70s it has to be TC. Also Alan Woodward. sabella had real flair in a poor team.

Loved watching Hodgy, Colin Morris. Deane and Agana, Boborskis. Of present team Coutts.

in the end though got to be TC.
