There's no exception in the rules for it being early in a game or if you're young. It was a horrible challenge. The second one's tough because he goes down so easily but if it's a foul then it has to be a red card.

Uriah Rennie used to go to the same gym as my old man when I was a wee snapper. Had such an amazing personality.

I've met Uriah Rennie a few times in various formal and informal situations and he has only ever come across as a top, top guy. I saw Halsey referee a number of times and he was the best IMHO. Wish we had a few like him now.

Halsey reffed the Sheffield derby in League 1 at their place. Apparently he phoned Biggsy of all folk beforehand to get a bit of a briefing on what to expect, and said it'll be a success if he's out the limelight.

He broadly was, but he gave the Pigs a free kick in our half in the 93rd minute, after 4 mins of injury time were announced. Wednesday took 90 seconds to take the bloody thing, and when they did he blew up immediately. Fuming.

Luckily, I'm a calm, patient bloke who doesn't hold a grudge. The bastard.

Although I wouldn't class referees as celebrities I once saw Howard Webb collect a takeaway from Dynasty in Rotherham and couldn't believe how tall his was. Also when I delved in a bit of refeering on a Sunday when I was in my teens I went through the same academy as Bobby and Andy Madley I ran the line with Bobby as Ref and Andy on the other line. Bobby was always a knob but Andy who was ironically the guy who reffed us against Newcastle and did the 0-0 draw against Wednesday a couple of years back too always was a nice bloke. That academy was managed by Steve Lodge from Barnsley, although the Leeds United academy, I got abused by Paul Warnock when refeering Leeds vs Sheff United U16s probably because I was over compensating as I was a blade, praised by then Leeds Manager Kevin Blackwell for a good performance a few years later and had a great chat with Gus Poyet and Dennis Wise.

From meetings with the Prem refs of the time, nothing was said about this and this would have been 2002-2007. But then knackered my knee so packed it in.

Honestly, from politics, to the stock markets, to any sport in any league in the world there is manipulation and fraud.

There are always people behind the curtain pulling the puppet strings in all walks of life... nothing really new to see here sadly.

Very true, my old manager at work was overseeing a multi million pound refurbishment of some buildings. He openly told me and the rest of my peasant workmates one Monday morning that he’d been invited by a company to Tottenham Hotspur’s opening game of the season (he was a mad Tottenham fan too) all expenses paid for. That company won the contract aswel believe it or not.
As for the original post I can believe it.

The one current Prem ref who I have come across (and speak to regularly when the pubs were open) is actually quite a nice guy and is very active in promoting kids sport in the area - he also speaks very highly of Chris wilder

He's not a current ref, he was a decent bloke by all accounts. Slightly before the 'celebrity' refs started to come onto the scene.

One of the Sunday league refs we had used to tell stories of the size of Uriah's cock, he reckons he reffed some regional cup finals back when Rennie was a youngster and they used to share a dressing room.

He certainly did ref the local leagues back in the early eighties, including a cup final I played in. Uriah presented us with the winners medals after the match. Smashing bloke.

That pathetic excuse for a referee -yes Mike Dean -has ballsed it up again, Sent off West Ham player fr nothing more that him catching Mitrovic, who admiteddly made a meal of it. Egged on by Lee mason ( Another useless prat ) he views on VAR and recd carded him. Is he bent or just bleeding useless.? OR , more to the point, does he just like getting in the news with another sending off to his name.? Crazy
