I would reckon we were covering ourselves just in case. But now - with two more midfielders and the rise of Regan Slater - Ben was clearly needing first team football which he wouldn't get at Bramall Lane. Good management for the lad's career.

I see this as progress for the club,things have moved very quickly for the club in the last 12 months that we've now got a bigger squad than we really need and more importantly we need all players to be ready to step up.

As a result, Whiteman is a victim of this, but he now has a great opportunity to progress with Donny.

Had we still been in league one, he'd probably be still at the club, but i think we've now covered the positions well.

From what I saw of him looked like he was a good player and could turn out to be a even better player but he needs the first team experience to grow, as others have mentioned had we still been in league one I think he would still be at the club we we have progressed so much in the last year that he has fallen away. Hope there is a sell on clause in his contract though. Wish him good luck and hope he progresses with donny.

Agree, I bet the sale price is surprisingly low. Donny are skint and can’t afford much.
But I expect there'll be some clauses in our favour.
Like a large 25% sell on and maybe a buy back at a cheap rate clause (with conditions).

We have moved on as a club and it is oh so difficult to blood youngsters in our first team.

Chelsea give youngsters long contracts and send them out on loan for maybe years. I'd have done that with Whiteman but understand why not too.
