Ben Osborn

Osborn should be nowhere near the defense, as soon as it was one to one with only oz to beat , I turned to my mate and said we have had it here , he is to weak , miles to weak , the attacker just push for the line and crossed for the goal , could see it coming a mile off and if I can see it then Hecky should be able to , god knows what a top 6 team will do to us if oz is anywhere near the defense !

Ur right he shouldn't be a starter but why scapegoat him. I can name 2 or 3 at least who had worse games and also were partially responsible for their goal 🤷‍♂️

I find it odd that Hecky has said that he wanted to sign all his players from last year, and now complains about lack of quality.
We exercised a lot of options and gave as couple of one year deals out of sheer panic coz no one got to the bottom of our finances and knew whether we'd recruit anyone or not.
Shambolic.
Then we lost not only Doyle & McAtee but also Ndiaye & Berge.
There's your lack of quality right there in those 4 players.
And now we're in another type of panic which will cost us.
At least we'll be waving goodbye to a whole load of players who are too old or substandard next summer , whatever league we're in.

Can't fault Ben for effort but the PL is full of tall strong athletes which means he's in battles he can't win.
Put him together with our poor LWBs and our whole L side can't progress up the pitch and is vulnerable, which opponents spot and exploit.
Absolutely spot on left side major problem and was last season.

No he didn’t. He started 10 games. 20 league appearances in total.

Which sides does he get in then?
Apologies he made 4 less appearances In total for a side that finished 2nd in the Championship.

3 months later he starts in the PL and you think he’s now all of a sudden not good enough for the Championship. Go back to sleep.

He only started due to there being no other options. Not because he’s good. He won’t be playing next week.

Still waiting for these sides he’d get in in the league below.

Headless chicken who offers nothing over than running around a lot.

Did well today in my view, ran his socks off. Probably outfield man of match.
For me, running your socks off cos you’re that far off the game and opposition doesn’t qualify you for man of the match. If anything it shows how bad he is and was

Although I have rightfully given Osborn's continued selection a bit of stick, I actually put more blame on the Palace goal onto Norwood and Basham. Bash let Lerma travel about 30 metres straight through the centre of our midfield with the ball to create the space for Ayew on the wing in the build up to the goal. It was very reminiscent of Wilders second season in the PL and Norwood pointing as runners just galloped through our pathetic central midfield of him, lunny and ampadu. Similarly awful play today and then he has dumped Osborn in it who then just got done by a bigger, faster, more determined and more skillful opponent. And still JLT or Anel could have defended the cross better. A catalog of errors...
True for most of that.

For this 1 specific game, I personally scored Osborn higher than Anel and Egan.

Sadly some people have a pre-determined bias on how a player will perform before a ball has even been kicked.
We thought he was close to MOTM, beaten only by Littler Benie 🙂

1st half Osborn seemed to be supporting the attacking two down the left, but still had the energy to prevent at least one cross into our box, baling out Lowe and JLT. 2nd half he played deeper, either by design or because he didn't have the energy to keep on doing full length pitch runs.

Of course he shouldn't be in the starting eleven, but he rarely lets us down.

I thought he played well generally too although he could have done better for their goal.

He started for a decent Forest team consistently before joining us, don't know why we should assume he's now not good enough in his prime.

The same could be said for Mitchell who George walked past easily, however their CB covered the men in the middle, we didn't.

Having a go at Basham for not being able to compete against Lerma is like kicking a a dying animal.

Basham should have been nowhere near our starting midfield in that game and struggled like everyone who has ever watched a football match before knew he would.

And? When the players Osborn is better than have been replaced, then we should think about replacing him.
I’m not knocking Osborn, he’s always a 100% player and like I said in another thread Blades will always forgive a lack of ability if we can see people working their bollocks off which he always does. I just don’t think he’s premier league quality which isn’t a criticism of him more the situation we’ve found ourselves in where he’s the best option in that position

Ben Osborn epitomises the culture of our club hardwork, effort and sacrifice. Is he limited at this level? Yeah. Does he moan about it? No, he gets on with job and puts in work whenever he’s called upon.

Ben probably realises he’s not got the quality to be a premier league starter as much as the board probably realises they didn’t have the infrastructure and intelligence to have done business a lot quicker.

Because he's done very little in the way of anything good since joining the club 3 years ago? Not all players' careers follow the typical trajectory. He's only in his prime if he's playing the best football of his career, which he's not. That was early in his career at Forest.

He's handy to have around the side to fill in when needed (like Saturday), but there's no way he should be playing regularly.

So in these three years he has become a league 1 player, despite spending one and starting another in the PL?

I find it both hilarious and slightly troubling that grown men, many of whom i assume are parents, with jobs and the right to vote - watch that game on Saturday and their reaction is to come on here and bash Osborn and Basham.

Fascinating to see how the human mind works...
