Surely got to be a shout for him being at least in the starting squad .

Good pace, attacking and defensive qualities, strikes a good dead ball and chips in with a few goals

Interesting combination...........I prefer egg myself.....

But on the subject of Davies, he has been given the cold shoulder since his decent early season form, not sure why? We shall see........

Too many qualities to play in this side.

Needs to get back to passing sideways or backwards and must not shoot towards goal, otherwise he will feel the wrath of Clough

Not for me. Jack of all trades and master of none. He has a decent cross which he over uses, and is a decent utility player. But pack your side with players of this quality and we'll be a third divisioin team for some time to come.

UTB
Our side is packed with players of this quality aside of Brayford, Murphy and Done

and hopefully Reed, Kennedy, potentially Baxter and possibly McNulty........but yes I agree with your overall assessment of our average side.

Well it worked against Swindon. Bring in players who aren't necessarily good ball players or all that skilful but include players with a bit of guts and determination like Ben Davies. To be fair we did get lucky against Swindon, they could have been 0-3 up at half time, didn't have their shooting boots on that day. We're too samey and teams have sussed us out.

I've been disappointed this season with Baxter, great to watch when he's up for it otherwise it's lazy passes and over cocky re:Fleetwood's first goal last week

Yes potentially Reed and Kennedy really hope so .

Mcnulty and Baxter this horrible season has destroyed them.

As I mentioned in a previous thread that over cocky pass as you say, was Harris's fault, Baxter was given the ball from Harris with three opposing players closing him down he didn't have time to do anything with the ball except pass the ball with his first touch, that was definitely Harris's fault and when he had the ball he had enough time and space to make a better pass to someone who wasn't under any pressure. The problem is so many people watch the match with blinkers on and like to make Baxter the scapegoat

On the Davies situation, I would give him a chance of playing, I couldn't understand why Clough hasn't used him more, as said he puts decent crosses in, one of the best at dead ball situations we have got, he is not frightened of having a shot on goal and always committed giving 100 percent. In my opinion he was our best player at the start of the season and perhaps something we have been lacking.

I think it might be you with Rosecunted glasses on.

I'm one of baxters biggest fans, but he's gone from being Everton's new Rooney to a league 1 sub, and he's still 21? 22?
The lad must be lazy and right now his class isn't pulling him through

Nice use of words, if you can't see passing a ball to any player who has three opposing players within two yards of him and expect that player to play a decent pass and not be under pressure you are expecting too much of him, I think Messi would be struggling

If they are good enough for Inverdale...
Trouble is the incident isn't in isolation ,he gives the ball away and never wins it back with alarming regularity. Massively over rated player in my opinion.

I actually see Ben as a better impact sub than JCR. He doesnt have the flair in his dribbling skills, but then, he doesnt need them.

Mostly, I feel, because he can put in a quality cross, free-kick or corner. Especially if we are chasing a game as we may lack height but we get more bodies in the box when we need a goal to take advantage of them.

Furthermore, he can score as well, we know he will give 100% and can defend, or crunch a tackle if neccesary.

I for one, am glad he is there as an option.

Ben Davies is best free kick taker at club. He can win games with one strike (nearly did on Tuesday).
Where we are now he has to start - maybe centrally instead of Reed since I think we need a fit and firing Flynn in the team on the right side of midfield to get the best out of Beard.

Sorry, what?

You seem to have misspelt "no" as "good".

Does he spend too much time in the gym? Too much muscles can ruin players' mobility.

I've been amazed at how slow Davies looks on the ball, trying to get away from players, but equally amazed at how well he's coped as right back against nippy wingers.

More a sub than a starter but decent from set pieces.

I think so because he certainly isn't out of shape. He just isn't built for speed. He's more of the Billy Sharp build than, say, Luton Shelton!

I'm not sure where he gets this free-kick specialist tag from. How many has he scored for us now, one? It was a good one, in fairness, but it hardly qualifies him as a threat from direct free-kicks.

He is not built for speed or doesn't get knocked off the ball easily with his build you can't have it both ways, there are not many players who have speed and also the ability to not use their physical strength to hold people off, speed is an attribute you are either born with or not, putting on a few pounds will not affect this. On the dead ball situations I would say Davies or Baxter are our best two players, they usually get it on target or play a ball where you would expect an attacking player to have a chance of putting the ball on target. They usually do this but no one is there to meet the ball. I don't think any other members of the squad are capable of doing this with the same accuracy.

The problem with Davies is that he's a winger. A position where it is far more advantageous to have pace, or the ability to beat a man than the ability to hold the ball up (unless we're holding the ball in the corners, trying to hold on to a narrow lead, which we unfortunately have a tendency to do.)

His delivery from corners is quite good. However, as I've said before, I believe Bob Harris is the best crosser and corner taker we have at the club.

The point I was alluding to with Davies is that he came with a reputation as a dead ball specialist. In scoring just one free kick, he hasn't really lived up to this billing.
