Some on here will remember heading over the Pennines to the Northwich Victoria Supporters Trust Beer Festival a couple of years ago. We took about ten from the forum, were given a tour of the ground and supped some decent ales and generally had a cracking run out.

Well - Pez and the Vics Trust have invited us again this year with the event costing £5.00 a ticket and being held on June 16th.

Can I also point out (to those who may not closely follow Northern Premier League football :)) that the Vics could use as much support as they can get right now. The club had a rough week last month and in the space of 48 hours lost their entire coaching team and got booted out of their ground - the neighbouring concrete factory wants to expand!

Apart from that, the club are having a decent season and promotion back to the Conf North is not out of the question!

More to the point - the Vics are a grand old club (older than us) whose Drill Field ground was the oldest in the world till they moved out about 8 years ago - and we've met them twice in the league and never lost :D They are the kind of club and dedicated fans that football can't afford to lose.

If you'd be up for going over again - and showing some Blades support for a historic club in difficult times - either reply on this thread or drop me a PM.

Weekend before my holidays again!

May be last minute things to do.

No, sorry.

No, sorry.

I think spousal abuse is the misogynist act du jour when drinking lager, hence "three pints of wifebeater, please".

Sheepdipblade is correct, we are in a bit of a mess. Our situation is that our last two home games were played at Kidsgrove (Staffordshire !!) & Macclesfield and there was talk last night of us maybe playing a Home game in Skelmersdale. Due to our ground or rather the Banks ground being sold to a Chemical Company (who have done nothing wrong as the ground site was on the open market) we are now a Nomad Club. This Beer Festival is being held to try & raise money for what ever we can do to try and keep going as a Football Club with 136 years of History behind it !! At a meeting last night our Chairman said that he doubts if he can afford to fund the club on his own next season, we have to provide our league in two weeks where we hope to be playing next season, this we do not know. If the league get arsey then we could find that we are thrown out of the league and any funds would be used in starting up from the bottom of the ladder. This situation is after little more than four season ago when we were in the top flight of non league football in the Conference National.

I know that Sheepdipblade did a great job in getting some of you together, attending one of our previous beer festivals, this included a great chap Happy Hippy (RIP) & a great evening was had by all, even the SUFC Gnome came along as a raffle prize & was won by one of you I think !!

We would love to see some of you make a return trip to see us.

Cheers

Pez.

There are definitely at least a few of us up for it Pez.

Any idea's on the location though?

I think it's scheduled to be at a local rugby club as the bar it Victoria Stadium is now clearly not an option. I'll ask Pez to confirm the details.

Foxy - could you co-ordinate the pennies this year as it may be far more practical (and therefore likely to happen) to do via the Golden Lion than from my distance?

Dont claim to be an officianado in any way, prefer bitters over lager, will useually go for Moonshine over John Smiths that kind of thing, but thought it worth mentioning the fact that prior to Scunny game had a change and went for drink with older bro in town center. Called in Brown Bear on Norfolk Street and was drinking Sam Smiths Soveriegn at the princly sum of £1.60 a pint. I found it to be a sound drink and would have been happy to have stopped on it all night.

Apologies if thats some kind of sacreligeos statement in real ale/beer festival terms but a bargains a bargain in these austeer times

Please dont slaughter me if Sams is thought to be shite but I liked it

I think I've got the credentials, real ale afficionado, leftist, republican, anti-monarchist, francophile, I'd fancy a gargle in Northwich

A- ANTI -ANTICAPITALISTA- A -ANTI-ANTICAPITALISTA

au revoir, bon soiree, bon weekend

I love a pint of SS Old Brewery Bitter!

We have switched location to a slightly bigger venue than the Rugby Club, it is now going to be held at Lostock Club which is only about 1.5 miles from Weatherspoons (Penny Black) & we are running a free mini bus from the Penny Black to Lostock Club for several trips. There is also a new Travel Lodge on the A556 as well so check out prices for accommodation.

Cheers

Pez.

PS We will be trying to get the Moonshine Cider again this year it goes down well & has a kick like a mule !!

And the mess just got better !! NVFC as it stands has been told by the league that they will be thrown out of it at the end of the season & not allowed to take part in the play offs. This is why the beer festival was this year was to provide funds to whatever is set up to preserve the name of NVFC as it is looking more of a certainty that under our present set up we may not be going for much longer.

To anyone who is interested -

Pez from the organisers of the festival is going to be in Sheff for the snooker on 27th April.

Could anyone who is interested drop me a PM before then so we can arrange to pay for and collect tickets from him whilst he's over.
