At least we know now.

Bad signing in my opinion. Still, guess it does not carry a lot of risk. Best we can hope for is that he wants to put himself in the shop window and puts some effort in over the next month or so.

Better than porter and you can not deny that olle, if he is fit play him Saturday and he will bag.

Welcome back James, a lot of arguments about to be settled.....

I'm sure you'll turn up to tell him to his face.

That's what we've signed him for. He'll be more of a celebrity/talismanic figure than a goalscorer. Restricted to brief cameo appearances at best.

If it works, he'll be remembered alongside the second spell of Brian Deane.

If it fails, he'll be remembered alongside the second spell of Marcus Bent.

A lot riding on us for this to work, but for him too. Let's not forget though, when we signed him he'd not scored any goals other than pens for over a season, and was very much thought of as on the way down. Deja-vu in some ways - though this time, unlikely to be crippling financially. He and Evans could be quite the partnership at this level.

No coincidence he's signed in time to arrange the Christmas party.

lets face it ,signing beattie is about as exciting as its going to get for us blades this season
if your against the signing then fair enough ,personally i think the reason he has signed is because he has an affinity with the fans
proved by him turning up to blades games when not available for stoke so lets destroy the blokes confidence before he kicks a ball ,that should be really benificial to the football team

Dont rely on Monty and Doyle to provide for him or we are wasting his and our time.
no one provided for him last time did they ? he was lazy and uninterested and only scored penalties

nice goals per game ratio though

"Collin then saved Richard Cresswell's poor 70th minute penalty"

Sounds like we could do with someone scoring them again.

Two month contract, low risk for the club, and the offer of a longer term one if things go well.

It's a lot better than that wanker Marcus Bent screwing 6 months at £20k a week out of the club last season for minimum effort

Welcome back Sir James.

I am particularly pleased that we have another Beattie thread :)

Perhaps someone should set up a Beattie-thread-ometer!

I thought there were better ways of spending the money. Not because I don't think he can do well, but because I think it is time for us to plan long term and make more signings for the future. But now he's here it's time to support him and look at how we can make best use of him.

I don’t really understand anyone’s argument not to sign him back... yes he is similar to what we have and I would like to see some pace, but I would have BT over any of our lads upfront at the moment any day... the guy just oozes class and a fit BT would easily at his age now walk into any championship side

If he starts scoring, we'll probably sell him anyway

Welcome back James, a lot of arguments about to be settled.....

1) Will he score goals - yes, think most of us agree that he should be scoring a few at this level
2) Will he get us promoted - not sure
3) Will his signing be worth it if we don't get promoted - I don't think so
4) 90% wanted him to sign - if the answer to (3) is no, does it mean that 90% of us now believe in promotion?

1) Will he score goals - You'd have to expect so
2) Will he get us promoted - not sure one person can win you promotion, unless they are world class.
3) Will his signing be worth it if we don't get promoted - If the reports that he's signed for low wages are true then you'd have to find out how much we've benefited financially and reassess your answer. If we'd have signed any other striker would they have also "got us promoted" and would they have generated the same income?
4) 90% wanted him to sign - if the answer to (3) is no, does it mean that 90% of us now believe in promotion? - 90% feel we have a better chance than this time last week.

Well, I said no to him, but now he's here, I can only look forward to seeing him in red and white again and hope that this works out well...

Think it's like one of those fault finder flowcharts in relation to your q's Bergs. If the answer to the first is "no" then none of the rest apply. And to be fair to him, in the x weeks he's contracted to be here it's the only one answerable in that time frame. Conversley, if he does well (say 7 goals) I'd actually be ever so slightly worried that someone is going to put a Cressy-esque contract in front of him. That said, one thing I think we can all agree on is that the whole place needs a lift and that's just what we'll get at 5 to 3 come matchday.
