Morning all,

Just published a new, very special episode of the podcast, now with added voice... I'm joined by the podcast's first ever guest, fellow Blade and data enthusiast Jay, who you may have seen on Twitter putting out some really interesting stats and info about United.

It's a fairly chunky podcast, Jay's a great guest and (I think) it's a really interesting and insightful discussion about the Leeds game, and some general bits of the season so far. We talk about...

- breaking down the Leeds win (01:00)
- Billy Sharps's season so far, in great detail (14:05)
- Our lack of goals from midfield / general philosophy of play, also in great detail (22:50)
- Alioski's abysmal afternoon, and the idea of having a player like that in Wilder's side
- A return to form for Chris Basham (47:30)

As I said, this is the first time I've had a guest on, and I'm still very much an amateur when it comes to podcasting, so please forgive some slightly scratchy sound in places.

I reaaally enjoyed recording this and chatting to Jay (who I've not met, just interacted on the Twitters a bit), and I hope you do too. Maybe give Football Heaven a miss this week and listen to BladesPod instead :D

Feedback is, as always, very much appreciated, as is spreading the word if you enjoy it.

Here's some Sharp stats, which we get into in detail on the podcast:

Ben

I'm not a statto and would normally avoid stuff like this, but all of these have been really interesting. Your 'style' is also improving and developing as you get more experience. Loved you guest too and his analysis of Duff, Evans, Sharp and Fleck.

Keep up the good work mate

Thanks very much! Have to say Jay was a great guest, had lots to say and hit some really interesting points.

They actually produce xG stats below the top leagues?

Excellent podcast, thanks Ben.
Just a teeny little bit too much navel gazing about the penalty for my taste...but otherwise great listening. It’s becoming a fab series.

Yep - quite a few people do them. I usually look at www.experimental361.com who focus on all four leagues.

Excellent podcast, thanks Ben.

Thank you! That’s totally fair criticism, I did think about cutting some of that out. Cheers!

Our goals from midfield is difficult as we attack with our 2 central midfielders deep.

But we have Clarke and Sharp both in double figures for the season.

We have holmes to try and add goals from midfield. But I’m not sure where we could get a goalscoring central midfielder from to be honest.

Only thing I could think is we would maybe get more goals with freeman in the team (purely based on last season) and maybe a Josh Morris type player on the left.

Liked it, had it on for the last couple of days in the car. Very stat heavy, some of which I've never heard of! Could be an idea to explain some terms?

Thanks! Yeah, I agree that could be worthwhile. Some of it is still pretty new to me tbh (xA -expected assists - is something I’ve only recently become aware of) but it’s great that this kind of information is relatively available, even for the lower leagues.

This is excellent. First time I have heard your podcast

Please keep them coming. I really enjoyed it
