Empty terrace below and still had all the bent crush barriers, quite an eerie sight. Getting out that night was definitely a bit dicey in terms of space and you could see how utterly shit that stand was.

We played well but then allowed John Sheridan to run 40 yards without a tackle in extra time.

We were 1 division behind them, but not for long as it was Blades glory, owls down at the end of the season

Hull in the semi, and away in the cup at Old Trafford against Man Utd, Dean Hammond calamity included. I wasn’t proud of Hammond, it was the noise the Blades were making.
I was in a posh seat, a few rows behind the director’s box, and the most noise all through the game was coming from the Blades in the away section. A couple of the Man Utd fans sat near me commented that our lot were some of the noisiest fans they’d heard in a long time. The Blades that day were bloody brilliant.

Same, felt we were absolutely abject and the score line didn’t reflect the game - if they’d have won 2-7 I couldn’t have complained.

Loved the Norwich clip. That FA Cup run was the 1st load of away games I went on with my dad. Remember going on the coach down to Norwich, watching United videos on the way down.

Not sure if that game, or when we beat Newcastle at home in the league cup, was when I thought we could compete with the bigger clubs, as I was 15 at the time.

A bit of an odd one but similar to the Norwich game, we played Stoke in a cup replay (82/83?) at the old Victoria ground on a Tuesday night. They were a first division team (Garth Crooks etc) and we had Edwards up top with Curran and Morris our wide.
We totally played them off the park for long spells and frightened them to death but lost 3-2. I was 16 and felt so proud as the Blades fans gave the team a standing ovation

Man Utd in the premiership year, we sang 90 minutes straight in a dull old Trafford. Luton Shelton ran their defence all over but just couldn't score, to be honest if VAR was around then he'd probably have won us a penalty or two.

Further to this I've just re-watched the highlights - definite penalty on Luton Shelton!

This will I’m sure be an unpopular take, but up till injury time Hammond had put in the sort of performance we’d been hoping he’d provide when he signed. In fact I think a minute or two before he’d got a really good block in. He was also forced into covering it after (I think) Brayford was caught out on our right. It was a huge shame, as Man United had been crap, and it felt like we’d done enough to deserve a draw.

Most recently at home to Villa first season back in championship. After years of shite I was genuinely looking forward to a brilliant championship game. Didn’t fail to deliver. No player walked off without giving 100%. Losing 1 nil at the death didn’t stop me feeling proud

The crazy 4-5 loss to Fulham

In terms of technical ability and attacking play one of the best games at the Lane I have ever seen.

We were 4th division. Three divisions below them and just bottoming out after what is still the worst ever period in our history.

1st leg at Bramall Lane, Bob Hatton puts us 1-0 up and we hang on. Think at some stage they hit the post.

2nd leg, they scored fairly early on to level the tie. I thought we might be in for a bit of a battering, but we dug in and took it to extra time before Arsenal got their second and winning goal.

The away section at the clock end was full and everyone was singing "We're proud of you" (to the tune of auld lang syne).

Norwich away in 89 in the cup (we played do well that day), and strangely enough, 2 other trips to the same ground. Those being the 2-2 draw on the seaon opener (aug 92?) where we were 2 nil up and managed to draw the game by conceding in the last minute of injury time (again we played so well), and then the game away in Novermber 1990 when we lost 3-0.

The latter not for the team, but for the way the fans backed Bassett when we were rock bottom of the league, still to win that season, and there were no calls for his head. Instead on that miserable/rainy/ misty/dark afternoon, it almost brought a tear to the eye to hear 'One Davie Bassett' to be sung over and over again as we went 3 down late in the game. It was pure loyalty from the traveling Blades that day and i was immensely proud of us all. These days social media and the fickleness of fans, hedm would have got the sack by end of September despite everything he did for us.

Another one for the same reason where Blades fans were completely loyal and brilliant....Grimsby away last match of season in 1980, as a desperately poor side slipped to a 4 nil defeat at champions. We never shut up that day.

Agree with a lot of posted Norwich , Spurs & Liverpool in League Cup semis & Hull at Wembley as it was the first time we’d had a proper go there than in my for previous visits .. but for me I’d say against Arsenal at Old Trafford against the best side in England at the time put up a great showing & if it wasn’t for ‘that’ save from the lad from Kimberworth or Jags skying rebound from 6 yards there possibly might have been a different outcome .. who knows .. I know it was a lot better than the Newcastle performance there a few years earlier

Blades support was top notch even though we were shite , I think Grimsby had invited Reg Brearley to game in hope of him investing in them , instead he said he remembered our incredible support and chose us 12 months later funding the 4th Div campaign.. strange quirks of fate eh ?

Final whistle said it all. Fulham players laid out totally drained. Blades stood with head in hands.

I had quite a story on that Arsenal away night, hitchhiking down to London, meeting up with the old Blades crew in the pub.
Jumped the turnstile.
I remember a volley of pool or snooker balls being thrown from the clock end at the Arsenal fans when they scored.
It was chaos after the game. Remember a few baseball bats getting banded around.
After dodging the ticket inspector on the train we arrived back in Sheffield about 7 in the morning.
Mis-spent youth.

Leeds away around 1990 ish. 3 nil down at half time, 4 nil down start of second half, then fought back and lost 4-3 in the end. Came out thinking if we had played 5 more minutes we would have got at least a point. It was the game Phil Kite was punished for carrying the ball out of the area when kicking. Leeds scored from the resulting free kick. Replays later showed he was well inside the area. It was just a shame we lost to them scum bags.

The 89 Norwich game, I went on my own cos we were living darn sarf at the time. I got standing next to an old boy who'd seen our cup win in 1925. His verdict was that United had "Done us proud" vs Norwich, which I took as high praise from someone who'd seen the Blades in their heyday.
