I read a post on the footballground forum that the H & S regs only apply to new builds.
As ours would be a bolt-on extention design instead of a new stand then assume they may not apply to the original stand.
Assume the current seats stay as they are but the upper seats would have more leg room.
However I don’t know for sure, it’s just something another poster said.

Unlikely. H&S is paramount these days and the kop has been a botch job for far too long now. It would be a shame if sections of it had to be cordoned off now as have sections of the rustbucket due to being unsafe.

imo ( and trying to take my red and white specs off) i think BDTBL is one of the greatest stadiums we have in this country
The history, atmosphere that can be generated , the stands and view you get from all areas ( with the Kop needing slight adjustments!) , the location , the great views you get of the great stadium from many locations around Sheffield , the great Ariel view ( Doc Who certainly thought so!)

Love the stadium and from what i have read many away fans think so

imagine having a rotting shit hole , no where near the center of the city /on the outskirts of a little town , falling down , occasional swimming pool made up sponsors , nearly always only half full and only a shit heap 'band' and a really fat grotesque slob keeping it standing up , that would be embarrassing!

Increasing capacity should be seen as a bonus if we rebuild the Kop, not a priority. Other things are more important and there's a lot of room for capacity increasing with the South Stand, and the Kop corners.

Your post echos my thoughts. I wouldn't dream of moving from the Kop, but it does have its issues. Lack of leg room; the poles; the rake of the stand, and problems with access and egress.Inadequate prematch and half time facilities that are doubtless costing the club potential revenue. Also a lack of cover from the rain. If we got promoted to the Prem and the owners said the legacy of promotion is a super duper new kop rather than expenditure on players - I'd snap their hands off. It's a shame we have little tangible benefit from the last time we were there, including the parachute payments and Tevez money, which make me more keen to invest in infrastructure when the opportunity arrises.
Having said all that, I think the club are far more likely to improve the South stand first. My reasoning: The higher price per ticket, combined with the fact the stand is more or less full already. Higher pricing for executive facilities in a side stand (see Liverpool's main stand vs Anfield road end deliberations for evidence of this). The opportunity to continue to turn the Lane into an premier events stadium, in which all the above would help in that respect. If health and safety get involved at some later date, picking out some of the inadequacies of the Kop I've posted above, then the club's hand could be forced into Kop renovation or hopefully a total rebuild. Thanks to the OP for the video.

Exactly. Investing in significant infrastructure - something good that can never be taken away - will always be wiser than a short term spend on a player or two. It's a complete no brainer. Take the Desso spend as an example and multiply that benefit and effect by 100 for any quality Kop rebuild. It could be the best Kop in the country, improve our home atmosphere and come to define the club. What's an extra 2 or 3 thousand seats in comparison to that?

Agree....that’s why I think the board will prioritise the South stand over the Kop, eventhough the Kop is more urgent to the fans having the worse facilities in the stadium.

Also there’s a saturation point on corporate facilities. Is there a massive demand in Sheffield where there’s a big shortage?
We have them in the John Street stand and some in the South stand.
Some have suggested flattening the Kop site, so we can put corporate facilities in there too
But if we’re thinking about doubling the corporate space in the South stand doubt we also need corporate facilities in the Kop too.

Wasn't our original press box on the original John St stand? A large box basically that sat atop the stand before the bomb hit it during WW2. When it was rebuilt the box was never replaced, no idea where the press went then?!

There is a slight disadvantage with the TV gantry sited in the John Street stand idea.
When we’re not in the PL I wouldn’t expect the top tier to be opened
So for Championship matches it would be a little embarrassing looking on tv with a top tier completely empty (I’ve seen this several times at Leeds and Cardiff, they also have a top tier on their main grand stand and sometimes don’t bother opening it).
Altho overall think it would still probably make the ground look more impressive with the view from the JS stand.

Yes I have noticed that (with Leeds and Cardiff), it is what it is, you'll get higher attendances the higher the division you're in. Nothing to be embarrassed about lad! Anyway if we do get around to the South Stand Upper, the main TV camera would have to be on John St wouldn't it??

I'm old enough to remember when a similar wizard wheeze left Wolves with a brand spanking new stand 50 yards from the pitch when the money ran out to then rebuild the others on the new orientation.
