He was booked to do the book launch for Steve cowen and was discussing how it was the only bbc he would ever get work with. It’s a must listen too as I can’t do him justice on here.
Also both him and merse state that billy whitehirst was the hardest player they’d faced.

I'm not surprised about that. IIRC hard man Ruddock was giving Deano a hard time on the pitch at the Lane (Liverpool 1991 or 92) and had also threatened him in the tunnel. Billy wasn't in the side and may not even have been playing for us by then, but he got wind of it.
He 'had a word' with Ruddock as he came off at half time. In a totally unconnected event, Ruddock behaved much better in the second half. Funny that.....
