Agree…..it was just bad sportsmanship deliberately trying to wind up an opposition player then massively over reacting, rolling around in the floor clutching his head when there was a small push from Anel.

It was handbags really but the ref had no choice.

I think Anel should be made to practice his reaction to provocation like these. There are ways to highlight the provocation and get your point across that doesn't involve throat grabbing, maybe an even more cautious version of this:

Basstardette was clearly frustrated that he couldn't get the better of Anel during the early exchanges and Anel was angry with himself as he'd made a couple of uncharacteristic errors.

Add that into the mix and then the elbow, crafty kick, verbals and neck grab.

Players are human beings and Anel will learn from this and become a better player and be better at managing this type of cheating.

I’m sure everyone else knew this already, but I found out today that shouting nasty words at a player is a sending off offence. Feigning injury, or otherwise trying to ‘con’ the referee, is just a Yellow though.

The ref didn't blow for a foul on Anel, he gave a throw-in, so Bassette wasn't booked for a "foul" because the ref never gave one for that tackle...

So the yellow was for shouting & tweak to the back of Anel's neck ?

But I still think we should send the video of the earlier falling elbow to Anel's face which could easily have broken his cheekbone - the more I watch it , the more obvious it is deliberate.

More likely the Ref and Coventry will report us for the bust up on the pitch and in the tunnel. It was reported after game on tv the officials report would include the tunnel “incident”.

After our fines on the pitch earlier in season weren’t we warned about consequences for further incidents?

Bassette will almost certainly be a marked man with referees from now on. No ref is going to want to see replays of alleged elbows or deal with the aftermath of sendings off when he could have issued an early booking to Bassette.

So Bassette is going to find himself booked early on in lots of games, probably for trivial things and may well end up with a few reds.

Thought the same at the time, ref was looking directly at it so if Anel had made a meal of it I think he’d have considered showing a red.
