Bash overlapping wasn't broken, it was one of our best assets last season. The relationship between him Baldock/Bogle was great and that should still be used.
I do hope this isn't him falling off a cliff, because he in my eyes is a Legend at United for what he has done in his role, his attitude and application. But i think Slav will slowly push him out as "defenders do defending" clearly is his tactics.
Remember when Basham was our midfielder in league 1….he was probably decent league 1 standard.
We tried him out as centre back…again he was decent league 1 standard.
We even tried him as a right full back….again he was decent league 1 standard.
Overall he’s never been that good but his massive strength is versatility to play several positions and he has incredible stamina.
So Wilder devised a brilliant plan to transform Basham’s career.
Asked him to play centre back, right back and midfield…all within the same match.
Basham has Egan next to him helping our when he was centre back.
Baldock isn’t the greatest right back but loves getting forward..so Basham moves across to cover the right back position.
Basham is so fit that he’s able to move upfield to support Baldock down the right wing.
Sometimes Basham was in attack making late runs into the box.
Basham never had much ability…..ability wasn’t the reason he was so effective for us.
If we insist on Basham to stick to one position I think he’ll revert back to being average again….shame really.
