thought he had an average game seems to be far better going forward from RCB than he does from RWB.

Baldock coming back and Basham reverting to RCB will help us regain that fluidity and also the stability we have been used to.

Don’t think there is any reason to be concerned though. Fleck is getting used to not having Coutts. Lundstram seems to be up against 11 opposition men and thousands of blades determined for him to fail. All will be good once Baldock is back. The stats from today speak for themselves had they not scored what was a great goal they wouldn’t have been able to keep 13 men behind the ball.

The facts speak for themselves. Freeman is better with Basham than Baldock.

I don't thinks it's a Freeman or Baldock debate Boo - just a 'we need a right wing back fit' thread. As Baldock is due to be fit before Freeman - that's why he's mentioned.

I'd then revert to Freeman as first choice once fit. We need one back for balance though and to get Bash back to his best position too.

Thought Lundstram was decent. Last game I thought he was a bit slow at releasing the ball at times but was faster tonight, and hopefully he'll be faster again in the next game. It's great that he's getting a run of games under his belt, as a few minutes here and there coming on as a sub isn't really much good.

I tend to agree but the thread started as a criticism of Bashambaur and when he gives his all,(and surly everyone knows he will for this club) then I'll defend him.
I thought he played well and put in some great crosses especially in the first half but I watched on I Follow.

I don’t doubt. Reason I used Baldock as an example is I believe he is closest to full fitness?
OK. I don t like the criticism or understand the term average when said player gives everthing every game.

Thought he did well Boo, rarely less than a seven for me but most of them crosses were over hit...it’s not his position but he can do a job there...2nd half we attacked almost exclusively down the left...

UTB!

Bash made some great overlaps but it shows how much we miss Freeman. Duffy is everywhere at the same time( yes he can time shift). Freeman Duffy and Coutts and Basham in their preferred rolls will be like starting the season a new if they become available at the same time.
I still think we have spectacular times to come from our Sunday league Pub team.

Have to give credit where due to United.

We’re consistently down 2 automatic starters out of 11 right now.

To be minus Freeman and Baldock is a little like boxing with one hand behind your back. Basham absolutely understands how we play and when he fills in, we also lose what he brings to the RCB position.

To be without Coutts as well is like having lead in one of your shoes at the same time - we’re not as fluid as we’d like.

Get one of the RWB back and we’ll look far more mobile. It might just allow us to accommodate what Lundstram brings and allow us to adjust. He seems to be getting in more goalscoring positions than Coutts for instance. Hopefully that can become a regular additional feature.

Baldock over Freeman any day of the week.

One of the biggest plusses this year has been the improvement in wing backs.
If it is defending you want and last ditch tackles probably? But attacking outlets and a player who will give many assists and possibly goals? Freeman suits the Wilder style.

If I’m honest I though he was below tonight I don’t doubt his effort and I also don’t question his importance but I do think he’s been far less effective attacking from RWB than RCB his crossing was dire tonight. It I don’t want to really slate him when I’m trying to highlight his importance in another position.

The sooner we can revert to attacking from both RCB and LCB the better. At the minute CCV who I also rate highly doesn’t get forward anywhere near enough as Basham and so only JOC goes forward and this makes us a little predictable

He gave his all in the first half and made some great runs (and the Birmingham defenders looked scared of him) but his final ball isn't the best. Ditto to O'Connell.

I think without Coutts we are much more exposed on the counter. Ludsrram is slower and doesn't get back as quickly. I do think Lundstram will keep improving.

I really don't know whether we should play Fleck and Lundstram or Fleck and Basham when Baldock is fit.

Yeah,Bash does a job there, but no end product for me..a lot better when he plays as the right sided Centre Back...We'll be better with either of the 2 lads back in there.
Lundstram did ok for me...seemed more settled..Stevens played well along with Fleck and ofcourse Leon.

Baldock has been one of our players of the season, a bit puzzled why some think Freeman should be Fourier choice when fit

because Freeman is marginally better in the system we play, and he offers a goal threat. However Baldock is probably better defensively and has a fraction more pace. It's like a choice of waking up with Megan Fox or Keira knightly either way your happy......... don't ask who that makes Basham lol

Lundstram may not be the man to replace Coutts but Basham could be? Really?

In the long Paul Walker interview on Thursday - very much worth a listen - CW tacitly acknowledged that although Basham's been giving his all at RWB , one can't expect him to be a 100% replacement for a specialist in that position.
I love how "together" the manager , team & fans are , such that a manager can risk such an honest comment but know that it will not upset the player , because the players have such respect for the manager and vice versa.
Also the degree of honesty by the manager with the fans is almost unique in football these days.
There are very few managers who can afford to be so candid , but what CW has brought to the Lane is an open , honest , feelgood atmosphere , win or lose , that has only rarely been here in my long lifetime of supporting the Blades.
All fans want is to see a manager and his players doing their very best , despite difficult circumstances.
Once you've got that , things like getting to the Prem are up to the board.
And whether we get there or not , the current atmosphere under CW will have me loving every visit.

This. I just think we are a second slower than normal at everything. Challanges and passes. Maybe we needed to freshen the starting line up a bit more as we put a shift in on Tuesday. Saying that we have limited options at the moment

Basham is taking on a difficult role that is his 3rd best position. Shows what a great player he is for the squad. the 2 RWBs will make us better going forward.

Difficult decisions at CB when Baldock is fit again

Yes I'm sure I've said that. The Freeman/Basham partnership is as good as anything we have.

I didn't mean replace, but we only really have two options, Basham or Lundstram. I think playing Lundstram makes us weaker at the back (although, he is getting better with each game) and playing Basham would probably make us weaker in terms of possession and passing.

Neither are particularly desirable, but we have what we have.

We can't replace Coutts yet. We have to adapt. But playing Basham would mean bigger changes. In any event it's the quickness that's lacking. Basham wouldn't make that any better, worse in my opinion Robbie.

I think he'd protect the defence better and break up play more but then wouldn't use the ball as well. I prefer him to CCV at the back though, specifically for the way he gets forward. We've looked very lop-sided going forward since Freeman/Baldock have been injured. Bash has tried his best but CCV isn't quite as kamikaze as O'Connell.

I agree. Bash has done his best filling in but he doesnt give us the attacking threat Freeman or Baldock do. We have missed them - and it really limits our threat down the right. This is even more telling when teams are making it hard for us to break them down (like Brum did) and we dont have two flanks to attack down.
