Basham

I am not going to reiterate Basham's limitations because they are well known and they were exposed a few times in the first half.
He was struggling to get forward because CCV did not play the RCB role correctly.
In the second half it was obvious that CW had told CCV that , when we were in possession , he must get forward and support Bash.
This lead directly to the equaliser , with CCV overlapping Bash and putting in a cross from almost the corner flag (can anyone remember Eddie Colquhoun overlapping Woody to put in a cross ? No. It never happened.).
This system of CW's demands fit players , intelligent players , who can adapt to roles.
Once that cross was exquisitely converted by Leon , it was as if the team had suddenly worked it out.
The rest of the half followed the natural course of CW football , just stunning.

Must admit I have not been a massive fan of Basham in the past and didn’t think he would be comfortable making the step up to Championship level. I was wrong. Yes he has limitations, but his versatility and work ethic make up for that. I also believe that CW is the main reason that Bash has become an important player for us at this level.

I seem to recall 'Bashambaur' being coined after a cheeky little run forward & pirhouette against Southampton in the cup the other year. Absolutely skinned his man to rapturous applause from the lane faithful.

Am trying to picture this and it made me laugh!

Funnily enough, the legend of EC was brought up at the Reading game when JOC swept an inch perfect 40 yard pass from his position as LCB to someone on the right wing. It was suggested he would be turning in his grave (should he have actually died obviously) to see a CB passing a ball like that.

I absolutely concur with those on this thread that suggest the Bash/CCV combo was not quite "doing it" in the first half but more than got to grips with the task after the break.
