Could Basham be okay in the stearman / Wright role of the deepest defender who organisers?

If wright and stearman are injured we need someone to fulfill that role in the short term.

I'd have to say no.

He's newish to the position and we looked weak at the back when eel, Bash and O'Connell played together last year. You could see the lack of organisation costing us. And it was no surprise our results were significantly better with Wright in the side.

We need that experienced head to lead the side and organise -

Don't think bash quite has that experience to do that. Although I've no doubt o.connell could grow into things and take that mantel given time.

I think Basham has to be at RCB.

Carter-Vickers would probably be a better option in the middle of the 3.

O'Connell could probably do it but that would mean Lafferty at LCB.

If Stearman and Wright are out I think we could be most likely to go to 4 at the back.

If Stearman and Wright are both out at any point then the best person for the job may actually depend on who is in goal.
It's quite clear that Blackman isn't (yet) a talker or an organiser so putting the new lad immediately in front of him with the other 2 CBs given licence to rotate getting forward could be risky. Basham could indeed be the best option if Moore is also injured, if not then I agree that he is far better at RCB.

The way to continuous improvement is your first teamers become squad players and your squad players move on.

I like Bash. Passionate, gives his all. But if he ends up on the bench, it means the team is progressing. If this lad CCV has a chance of making it at Spurs - he was on the bench vs Newcastle- so they must rate him, then I'm expecting a similar impact to when Walker or Naughton broke through.

Bash on the nench covers mudfield more also.

No, he's not that sort of player

He showed what he's like when he got caught in the middle against Boro for the goal. It's a definite no, keep him where he plays his best, at RCB.

Not for me. Basham is good at attacking 50/50s and surging out from the back with the ball. He's not an organiser and not a particularly good reader of the game. As mentioned, we saw the frailties last season when Wright didn't play. Hopefully CCV will be able to play the role if needed but he's very inexperienced so might not be ideal for him. Let's hope we can keep one of Wright and Stearman fit at all times.

It's sorted isn't it? That's why we're signing Cameron Carter-Vickers.

Not for me. As much as I like Basham, he is to Corporal Jones as Stearman/Wright is to Captain Mainwaring. Bash is the one I'd prefer in the trenches with me though.

Don't panic!

Bash is lacking at centre half in the Championship, he's just not physical enough. Back 3 when all are fit will be Stearman, JOC and the new lad. Bash is on his way to becoming back up.

Basham can't even sort his own game out at championship level never mind the whole defence. His best position is midfield, where he is best suited

That will probably be part of the master plan. DM is our current weak link, although I think his shortcomings you both mention are a bit exaggerated and unfair.

Basham is often complete bobbins in midfield, I can't believe some people still think it's his best position. We improved massively when he got suspended and we had to play Fleck and Coutts there, and all of his best games in the past couple of seasons have been in central defence. If he gets displaced from centre back at some point, he'd probably slot in ahead of Lundstram as midfield cover, but starting him there would be barmy when everyone is available.

I say this constantly

Sick of hearing some people talking about new players coming in and saying,

"We don't need a striker we've got Sharpy"
"We don't need a playmaker we've got Fleck"
We don't need a wide man we"ve got Duffy"

It's the kind of talk that has come down from the top of the club for decades and has guaranteed nothing except us being shit

I'd say right sided Centre Back in a 3 like he's been playing is his best position for me,but he's got a few shortcomings...gets done in the air to much for this level, and not really good enough on the ball to be in midfield other than back up...I think he's been at fault or partly at fault for us conceding all 3 goals in the 2 away games.
Great energy,mobility...good pace at the back and supports the attack well, puts in some great blocks,it's just a question of whether the plusses outweigh the minuses.

Bambi on stilts, with a fifty pence head, love his runs forward, petrified when he's in the box. BUT I'd give him 10 out of 10 for effort every match.......

Does anyone still think Basham is good enough for this level? He was a leading light last season, and his professionalism and commitment are outstanding, but he's simply not good enough.

he needs to be somewhere simple where he can do as he's told in my view. No disrespect to the lad, but league one is his level.

Gave Boro their goal and had rings ran around him at Cardiff. Gonna be long season.
