I'd be very interested in any Pubs, Bars, Beers you've particularly enjoyed while following The Blades this season. Let's hear them.

Content Provider you say? You're no one without an end of season review that goes viral. The Carrier Bag Firm have been compiling end of season pub & beer reviews since 2017.

Categories change every year. But, I feel this has been a very good year. If you're interested in the Year In Beer or the Season With Saison, please have a read. And, I'd love you to comment/reply with what you've been up to. Thanks.

Really enjoyed Peterborough away. Late ko so 5 hours suppin pre game. Standard town centre pubs then finally ended up in Charters bar (the boat). Not one for the real ale connoisseurs but a cracking atmosphere and a pint of hand pulled abbeydale stout that looked like dishwater but was actually pretty decent. Also memorable for me thinking for the first time that there might actually be a player in Brewster. Fingers crossed he comes back from his injury in the same form he exited.

Thanks. Agreed. Peterborough is a great place for a drink. Agreed. There is a player in Rhian.
This year, we were able to do a double header. The U18s away at Peterborough's Academy at 11am. And the first team at 5:30. We spent the bit in between in a great MicroPub (The Wonky Donkey). Afterwards we were in a nice upmarket Craft Beer bar (Blind Tiger). I still think Stoneworks in Peterborough is one of the best craft bars in the country. And the Palmerston Arms (quite near the ground) is a more traditional cask beer pub, with a lot of beers on gravity.

Poretti is very nice.
Thanks. What is it you particularly like about it? Crisp? Sharp? Citrus? Sweet? I've come across many of their beers in Italy. But I'm not sure which one they mainly market in the UK.

The Gatekeeper in Eastwood pre Forest away, half a dozen cask, and some keg. Don't ask me any names or beer notes, I just know I enjoyed them 😁

You say not one for the real ale connoisseurs but they had a real ale festival on that day! More beer festivals during away games next season, please.

Like Ball_Sup (Phil) we enjoyed Blind Tiger at Peterborough as well and ended up working our way through most of the menu, including this...

"A hoppy IPA brewed using upcycled Kellogg's® Corn Flakes® provided as part of their sustainability programme. A deep orange hue with plenty of residue sweetness, dry-hopped with Crystal, Eureka and Falconer's Flight for an aroma profile people have come to expect from a modern IPA."

Bit of a cheat one this but my Reading away day started in Southampton at the excellent Dancing Man Brewery, practically on the waterfront. Very much recommend that one, although there weren't many Blades in...

?The Gamekeepers? Maybe...
Haven't been in there for ages. Very nice gaff.

Superb. I had that Throw Away IPA in Blind Tiger as well. Love owt like that me.

It's nice!?
I'm not an expert, just know what I like.

Do you know Phil, I dont know which pubs sell it, but, I'm going to try and find one for ya!
It's very like a cross between Peroni and Moretti, strangely, and it's called Poretti! I believe it's made using 4 hops, and it's very easy on the pallet.

Most expensive half contender? Cantillon grand cuvee on the Bermondsey mile before Millwall, coming in at a very healthy £9.50 a half. I think it was in The Moor Tap, but recovery from the shock affected the brain cells. It was nice but nowhere near the Cloudwater gear next door. I know quality costs but that was a wallet hitter!!

Very honourable mention to The Thatched House en route to Blackpool for the Calvert award. No longer brewing their own but a range of very decent cask ale, Cheltenham on the TV, a decent snug, but above all we were offered Lancashire tapas for free. Pork scratching, pork pie and Lancashire cheese. See photo.

Yes. Great. I meant to say in my original post. Because I don't go to every away game, it'd be nice to hear about things I've missed. (And hopefully get them next time).

My Beer App thingy lists 43 different beers brewed by Poretti. Maybe it's the 4 Luppoli Originale you've been on - think that translates as 4 hops. I'll dig one out somewhere based on your recommendation. Cheers.

Another one here for Peterborough.

We had a few in a small micro pub, called The Bumble Inn, before the game. Chatted to a few locals in there.

After the game, we went to the Oakham Brewery Tap, loads of Blades in, some very much the worse for wear!, they had the usual Oakham beers on (Citra, Inferno, etc.), all about £3.50 a pint, and they had a great Thai restaurant on the upper level.

After that we went to The Ostrich, which had won Camra pub of the year in that area. It was packed, a good selection on the bar, and we got chatting to the landlord and landlady, whose daughter (I think it was their daughter) had gone to Sheffield Uni, so they were chatting about drinking around Eccy Road and stuff.

I'm usually designated driver, so at Derby, Stoke, Hull and other places, I had to wait until we got home to have a beer!

Just to pick up on an old thread. I'm currently following Ball_Sup (Phil) on twitter (with resent), as he makes his way through some fine looking beers on the continent.

Hope to catch a glass of nectar with him one day!

Enjoy good man!
Which reminds me. Anyone. Anytime. Anywhere. Three match trial with the Carrier Bag Firm. Message me. Many tried, some survived.

🎵 Tonight the streets are ours....

Apologies for missing this thread. Only just come across it due to the closed season bump. I do love a decent pint of bitter. Lots to be said for brand name bitters, but always nice to come across a decent real ale.

As a former innkeeper I was awarded Guinness quality award for a well kept, property served pint. Best in Northamptonshire at the time.

Loxley and Abbeydale brewing today a collaboration I am looking forward t getting mi chops round.

A young family keeping me from a lot of the away games over the last few seasons. To be fair finding the nice pubs/breweries that some of the oppo fans have as home pubs have been some of best pre match pints I’ve had. Apart form the old hop pole in West Brom where I nearly got nutted 😄
