Both scored same 1 goal each. How many goals has each been at fault for ?. Freemans cost us goals against Derby and Forest and doesnt look fit to me, Baldock none

Moot point. Baldock's hardly played so of course he's going to have conceded fewer goals.

When Freeman retires will those goals be discounted that he scored in League 1,no they all count.

Baldock might look busier as a defender but all i can say is this,if you are marking Stefan Scougall he should not be scoring with a header.

You really didn't get my point did you.

Let me put it simpler:
Freeman scored goals against league 1 opposition at a rate of 1 in 4.
Freeman has scored 1 in 15 against championship opposition.
Baldock was one of our stand our performers against Championship opposition.
Freeman so far has cost us more goals than he's created against Championship opposition, perhaps because he needs a rest.

Hence my preference for Baldock.

Anyway, to be clear I think both are valuable members and both offer us something different.

Our full back positions are the most demanding, so I think it's good we have options.

This talk of Baldock being a substantially better defender than Freeman – Baldock used to get plenty of criticism last season for poor defending. I think the difference between the two going forward is much wider than the difference between them defensively. Were we to revert to a flat back 4 I’d go with Baldock. But in the current formation we as a team look much better IMHO.

exactly.

The difference between them in and around the opposition penalty area is vast - which is probably why CW plays Freeman - and probably will do until he stops playing well in that area.

The point some are making about Freeman in the past few games is valid, where he hasn't been at his best - neither has some of our other players. The point about the Forest goal is valid also - it was poor defending. Freeman has ALWAYS been a poor(ish) defender, even on loan when he played down the left - we sacrifice those issues for what he gives us further up the park.

Finally - CW keeps picking him.

Freeman managed to stifle the attacking prowess of Adam "lucky shot" Reach the other week. He must be up there with Cafu now in the all time rankings.

You've summarised Reach nicely in your post. He's just another overpaid and overrated player on their books who wouldn't get a game in our team.

Freeman has looked absolutely awful last few games can only assume it's down to fitness
Baldock should be keeping him out the side but appears to lack the composure required to make the step up .Every time I see him play I just think he needs a bit more belief and he could be a top top player

If you prefer Baldock thats your choice ( i dont mind ),but i prefer Freeman and by the starts he has had this season so does Wilder.

I like salad cream, you will probably like mayo, its all about preferences/choices/tastes.............we are all different.

He didn’t prefer freeman when he was fit last year ? Just think Freeman’s got the shirt

I wish that this myth about players fitness levels wasn't brought up everytime a fan thinks a certain player is not performing well. It is ludicrous to think in this day & age with all the monitoring that goes on every day in training. It was spouted last year about Leon, " At least two stone overweight" was one comment I read, yeah really course he was. o_O

When Freeman came on for Wales the other day I though he wasn't up to the pace of the game at first, & with his shirt out then yes he may be looked a bit stocky, but you stand next to him with no shirts on & you will see that today's players are proper athletes & don't carry any extra weight at all & are skinny as f**k, l they wouldn't get picked for a start.

Well if its not his fitness he just can't be arsed then

Think baldock might start Saturday anyway if Freeman’s been away for 2 weeks and been to Albania or wherever it was in the week

Baldock is very close to replacing Freeman, wouldnt be too surprised if it was this saturday or next tuesday. Freeman has played a lot of football in a short space of time, plus the extra training / travel hes had in the last couple of international breaks. Wouldnt do either player any harm to switch it around, its a squad game and this is one area Wilder can change without the impact being huge. Freeman does offer a bit more quality in the final third, but its not like Baldock doesnt get into those positions, just needs to improve a little. Freeman has started the last few games quite poorly and personally think a month or so on the bench working in training would do him and Baldock the world of good. The season is made between now and the next international break, its non stop football, so a bit of squad rotation is needed now to ensure the burn out of last season doesnt happen again, we've certainly got the squad to change things up a bit

We all know that Freeman is better going forward but Baldock is better at defending so its a catch22

As discussed before we need to find a way to merge them together and make Freedock.

Playing 4 at the back id go baldock everyday of the week as he’s the better “fullback”. However playing the way we play freeman offers so much more than baldock in the final third.
