Walker sent off for England surely Southgate should be looking at George. He’s better than Walker now IMHO

I bet Southgate chooses someone from the big six, same old same old

Unfortunately George is well down the pecking order for the England No.2 shirt, behind TAA, Walker, Trippier, probably James at Chelsea and whoever is RB for Villa. Is Wan-Bissaka English because he'd be behind him as well?

Basham is better than fucking Mings and Dier. Michael Keane in the squad too..... ffs. You'd think Southgate being a defender would pick defenders who can actually defend.

Baldock is far too attacking. Southgate only has defenders who sit on the crossbar and dont venture anywhere near the opponents half

Despite all the bollocks about him being progressive, and wanting to change the approach and style of play, despite the fucking waistcoat, Southgate is just another in a long line of boring, conservative England managers who will never stray too far from the pool of 'bigger' clubs when making their selections.

And sorry to say, but there is absolutely no chance of him repeating what he did in the world cup. For one, they didn't play half as well as people claimed they did, and secondly, they had probably the easiest draw of any of the major nations.

It doesn't matter who he picks. The man is completely out of his depth. He was out-coached by Iceland...fucking Iceland. This is not the first example of him being completely inept tactically. His in game management is some of the worst I've ever seen.

I suppose Henderson got picked due to his great Man U form 🙄

I’m sorry, but you’ve gotta to have some more realistic expectations with England. We’ve reached 3 semi finals in major tournaments since 1966 yet we’re expected to batter every team across Europe.

Where did I say we're expected to batter anyone?

The worry has to be, our Chris, by rights, is next in line 😇.

UTB

Howe.

Gerrim in.

They'd be shite at the back but England pick shite defenders anyway, at least he'd have a go at playing some attacking football with the 30 odd quality attack minded players available.

The part where you’re moaning at being out coached by Iceland. We won, but that’s clearly not good enough is it?

Again, you're missing the point. It's nothing to do with my expectations on England, it's the fact that Southgate - not for the first time - has been completely useless in changing the game tactically. Iceland tonight had a game plan, which he should have expected, but instead he goes with 2 defensive midfielders which is absolute lunacy.

After knocking the ball around turgidly slowly and failing to break them down or get anywhere near their goal, still he persists with 0 creativity despite giving no service to the strikers. Southgate has got out of jail massively tonight. It's not about battering teams in qualifiers/friendlies, it's about how he performs in the big games in major tournaments against better opposition. If he fails to make positive changes in games like tonight, we're completely fucked when we play anyone decent.

And before you mention the World- Cup semi, if we get knocked out at any point before the Croatia game, the tournament is seen as yet another disaster. Credit where it's due, he met expectations, however his inability to react to the changes Croatia made in the semi-final were a massive contributing factor in why we never looked like getting back in the game.

So, it's nothing to do with not battering teams. Sometimes you win 1-0 and the keeper has a worldy or the ball doesn't quite bounce for you, but the ball ain't gunna bounce very often if you have no desire to break teams down. Credit goes to Iceland tonight they had a gameplan and stuck to it but we didn't make it very difficult for them at all.

He was in the squad before this one as well.
Fair enough but depending where he goes (or not) I can suddenly see him climbing to be no. 1 and if he does it all but proves that playing for a perceived bigger club gets you selected.

No other manager since Robson and Venables have reached a Semi Final, he battered the Euros group scoring the second highest goal (only Belgium scored more but played 2 more matches) and reached the Nations League Semi Final. What more can the bloke do right now to prove himself?

We won’t know how good we are against top class opposition until the Euros, if he fails to at least make the Final with this squad, I’ll be the first to say he’s got to go, but until then cut him some slack.

In 2 1/2 years at Boro he finished 12, 19 (relegated) and had Boro in the play offs when sacked.

🤣🤣🤣

The England team and manager are bang average, for some unknown reason they are built up to be something that they are not. They are, with the exception of one or two individuals a bunch of ridiculously overpaid very average footballers,i actually find the media spawning of our national team nauseating.

It’s not really helping his cause that England have about 500 quality right backs!

if him and enda played at opposite sides of the pitch I reckon he’d have been in the last squad given injuries etc ! Although, we are talking Southgate - so more than likely the spot would have gone to someone who played 15 minutes in an league cup match for - ‘big’ side.

I`d have to agree with "BettingBlade"about that.

Iceland played an extremely compact defence with every player contributing to it.

Such space that existed was out wide but any balls coming in arrived to find 2/3 England players against 7/8 of Iceland.

If 7/8 Iceland players are in their own penalty area, with the others close by, then most of the England players don`t need to be defending, so why isn`t there half a dozen of them in the Iceland area when the ball comes in.

The pockets of space when England attacked were small, but the players did not use them very well to use short quick accurate passing to create chances. To me it all looks to be Southgate not getting some simple things right when preparing for the opposition in question.
