Baldock > Freeman

He looked good going forward. I think both wing backs went missing defensively in the second half though. Whether that's their fault or just us getting it tactically wrong and being unable to deal with their overlapping full backs I'm not sure.

I thought he looked excellent going forward and also good in defence. He got caught out of position a few times but that's to be expected if you're asking him to get down the wing.

The midfield did not cover him properly and neither did the back 3.

Given that's his first game for us, looks like an improvement.

Baldock gas pace to burn he will be a fans favourite on here at least.

I thought Freeman did well at RCB.

Wilder was obviously experimenting with him there to see if it's something he can do, especially as we only have 3 CBs available.

I think Baldock will end up at RWB as he's quicker and better on the ball, but it'll be a good battle between them. We'll certainly be able to rotate.

Wilder mentioned 2 players got knocks tonight.
I'd expect those were Wright and Baldock, based on the substitutions.
Both might be unavailable for the weekend

personally much rather have Baldock in the team, better defensively. Plus freeman has been poor first 4 games

Isn't it interesting that it's "all abart opinions, Herby me owd". I thought Freeman was only OK at RCB and got caught out of position a few times, including for one goal. I read it as needs must rather than experimenting, due to a lack of bodies available at CB. He did make some excellent challenges and some emphatic clearances but a few were necessary due to being out of position to begin with.

On that showing, I don't think it's far off that Freeman loses his place. Very impressed.

I think there is still somewhere to go. Doesn't appear to have the same end product or the ability to get back in. Confident it will come and if we did lose Freeman I wouldn't be worried.

Never thought I would ever say anything nice about Freeman, I love life :)

It was a decent debut under the circumstances but it was far from a perfect performance. He's certainly got the potential to be a good signing.

He's class Baldock. By far the fastest player we have, and we need that pace with the lack of it elsewhere.

Not writing Freeman off, he's a good option and versatile but I think he's got a battle on his hands far bigger than the one he won with Brayford. And I don't see him winning this one.

  • Couldn't agree more Baldock looked good has pace and links up well with team mates what I saw of his defensive ability he has a competitive edge that makes him difficult to get past. Freeman should expect worried.

Baldock is too fast to be a Sheffield united player. I kept expecting him to pull up with a torn hamstring like the last player that moved faster than walking pace, Jamie Ward in 2009

Haven't mentioned it before but a mate of mine plays for Stocksbridge and played against United pre season. I asked who United's best player was and he said Baldock

This might be the best thing that could happen to Freeman. Knowing his position is under threat should, if he's got the slightest concern for his place in Wilder's team, give him a kick up the arse to show he's a Championship player. Competition is healthy, otherwise complacency becomes the norm and that is the death of any team.

Did anyone see Baldock cross the ball straight into the keepers hands, strolling back and then us conceding as he was out of position?

I feel like if that was Freeman he would be nailed to the cross for not tracking back. Baldock was used to try and limit their most pacey player imo
