Just read that Plymouth (!) are getting in on the act re. 2018. Gave away 10,000 freebies yesterday (remind you of anyone?). My thoughts are:

If England were to get the 2018 World Cup....

Sheffield would not get a look in (Leeds will probably be a force by then).

However, if a miracle did happen and Sheffield were to host games, it would go to Wendy - we'd see the usual Star/Radio Sheffield bias, friends in high places (as in 1966) etc.

I wish United would distance themselves from all this. Like twinning towns, it's just an excuse for no-mark councillors to jet off on 'fact finding missions.'

I hope that Sheffield is not selected.

I don't want the Pigs to get it on general principle.

And the last thing we need is another large construction project which is nothing to do with the actual team.

I think if England get the bid, Sheffield are certain to, football coming home and all that.

my mate (a pig ) is convinced sheffield will get it and says by rights united should win the rights to stage the games as hillsborough is not up to it and united have put all the hard work in

think he is in a minority though

This World Cup bid reminded me of something...

Does anyone remember this as im sure i didnt imagine it.

There used to be Flagpoles outside Hillsborough on Penistone Rd . These were put up for the 1966 World cup . After that Flags were only raised on a saturday tea time if BOTH sheffield teams won .

Seams strange these days that as Hillbrough emptied someone would be hoisting a flag to let them know the blades had also won .
