Strike me down is the big headline on the backpage of the sheffield star. It is refering to the injury's to Henri Camara and Darius Henderson. It quotes KB saying "cressy (richard cresswell) has been asked to shoulder the burden up front pretty much on his own lately and you can't keep asking one lad to do that. It's a huge task". Also KB is quoted saying "we had to make some tough choices against scunthorpe. Darius wasn't ready but was happy to answer the call because there was no other option. You could see he wasn't properly fit but, given the situation, we had to go for it" What I want to know is why we are playing unready players when we have an academy and why we don't recall Billy sharp? Is there any wonder why we are slipping down the table?

We can't recall Billy Sharp and from all accounts the academy players aren't nearly good enough at the moment.

Latest lot of Academy youngsters are shite.

Would a not good enough propsect be better than a player unfit?
Would it be more beneficial to give them some game time in the long run?
Is it worth the risk of prolonging someones injury?

In fairness to Blacky, I'm not sure I'd give a youngster his debut this season. We even booed Cresswell before he came on the pitch and Quinn regularly gets booed coming on and he's an academy graduate.

I don't know Robbie ask Blackwell. I'm just stating the reasons given as to why those two things aren't happening.

I would like to see some youngsters get a chance as well but the staff at Bramall Lane aren't up for that so unfit players are our only recognised choice.

Simples!

A very small minority booed Cresswell. Although these have died out too.

Quinn, well again its a very small minority, and rarely heard.
Was he booed when he first came on the season? Or indeed booed before this season?

Small minority, big majority, whatever. It's still an embarrassment. Wednesdayites rip me to shreds re: our "support" this season.

Are you ashamed to be a Blade sometimes Bramley?

Agreed, it is still an embarrassment.

But to not play a player because he 'might' get booed is also embarrassing

On the odd occasion this season I have. My perception of what being a Blade is and the reality over recent years is somewhat different.

The slow transition from participant to consumer?

:(

That transition exists at all clubs now. We are just floating currency, walking through the turnstiles. The clubs don't give a shit about us, which begs the question of why we care so much about them???

If anything clubs treat their fans better than ever (barring the pricing issue).

My point was more about the fans' change in attitude. The culture is different. It has become more consumerist and less social.

I guess you cannot have the commercialisation we've experienced without this as a consequence.

:(

1. Not sure I agree with that.

2. It has at bigger clubs where fans are just "another head" (i.e. big PL clubs).

3. I would have to agree with that.

I didn't go sunday but i listened to it all on RS and Keith Edwards was asked if Darius was fit he said he looked fresh. Did anyone else think he looked fit?????

He certainly looked out of sorts. Wasn't his usual bullish self and didn't really try to get on the end of anything. I sensed something was wrong but just thought it may have been an off day.

If they say he's got a knock then he must have. Wouldn't be the first would he?

Getting back to the start of this thread, we are Sheffield United fc. 120 years in the making FA Cup winners 4 times etc etc. We are not manor top boys or wincobank rovers FC. We should have the resources to field a team that isn't playing with unfit, or already injured players thus making the said player worse.
And if Billy Sharp has it that Sheffield United cannot recall him from donny rovers, then just who was that daft to write that in?
It's a joke that we are struggling to get unfit players ready, yet one of our own is banging goals in for a proper footballing side.
