Back four tweak

Basham surely?

For me, the defence will be a lot more effective (and stop shipping stupid goals) with a big dominant centre half. BDC and perm 2 from Egan, Basham or Davies. Could play them all and put Davies to left wing back, if he can play that position.

Have to say this is like going back in time to the Clough or Adkins days, when we were crying out for that type of defender, which neither brought in. The first thing Wilder did was bring in three excellent centre halves (two of the dominant variety JOC and EEL, and one of the organising type, Jake Wright) and hey presto we stopped shipping goals and won the title.

That's a good suggestion, hopefully Slav reads this forum

I'm hopeful Egan and Davies will be a strong partnership eventually. Lopata has usually played centrally in a back three and has some adapting to do in a back four. I'm not sure about his pace. He and Egan together may be a bit slow, although the same concern was also heard when Maguire started to play. Lopata is at an age where he may suddenly have found ways to avoid it being a big issue.

It's a shame we don't have more cup games to give the younger players more playing time in a slightly reduced pressure environment.

Seen Lopata a few times and he's nowhere near ready for the championship yet. Got to get Basham in there somewhere, need his athleticism and enthusiasm in this team now.

To play a back four forget Stevens and Baldock unfortunately we haven't anyone who can play a defensive setup .... when we aren't on the offensive it's just a Matter of time before we are exposed ... oh we need a new goalkeeper too

If we had a good midfielder then the defence may just not be so exposed although I’m not suggesting Coutts but he never used to give the ball away.

You are right there mate , God knows how many times we conceded possession in that dire first half at Oakwell ... We were lucky that Barnsley were even worse than us !
Mitrovic would probably have reached double figures on his own if we'd been at Fulham

I’d we were playing 3 at the back, I wouldn’t play the 532 we were playing last year.
343 would suit this team better
Bash Egan Davies
Baldock Norwood Fleck Osborn
Ndiaye Moose MGW

Baldock- Bash- Egan- Lopata- Davis
MGW - Norwood - Ozzy
Ndiaye- Moose.

Big test coming up, Blackpool, no mugs this season, well organised, score a fair few goals, and Madine up front

Didn't realise Madine was at Blackpool, that'll be interesting, I fear our centre halves will be coming off second best. It'll also be interesting to see what reception Madine gets, hopefully a decent one. I thought he was good in his spell at the Lane, defo helped in sealing promotion that season.

I remember when he led the line brilliantly for Bolton at the Lane, over Christmas 2 or 3 years back. They won 1-0, he might have even scored the winning goal but he was excellent. I reckon we might see something similar on Saturday.

Me neither until last weekend, watched Sky Saturday afternoon, he got a mention from whoever was covering their game

The back 4 might be Ok if we sat a holding midfield player in front of the 2 x CB's who could tackle and break up play. That type of player is a Kante type of player.

Slav's style is to score goals and concede less goals than we score - it's great if it works, but who have we got to put the ball in the net - certainly 3 of our forwards on the books couldn't hit a barn door (you know which three they are) - and one who looks perfectly capable of scoring goals hasn't ever completed a 90 minute game for us. The other ace goal scorer is 35 going on 36, who isn't going to play 46 games in a season.

If we aren't going to out score teams like Slavs Fulham we MUST protect the 2 CB's of Egan and Davies or carry on being an average also-ran like we are now.

We shouldn't be just 3 points behind the playoffs, we should have more points as our play deserves better, but none of the other 23 teams in the division is going to roll over just because we are ex Prem.

Bash is a better athlete and more mobile than Fleck and Norwood put together but he does give the ball away a lot perhaps a 4-1-3-2 could work Bash in front of the back 4 as suggested he could also come out of defence with the ball hopefully not too far as he’s supposed to be covering.

Move Davies to left back bring in the beast Lopata to play along side egan . any good ?
Even better leave Stevens at LB, bring in Lopata and banish Davies to the recycling bin with Robinson and Burke.....he is just as shite.

this game is similar to the stoke game coming up against a side in form but always think were better playing teams like this another 3 points imo
