A few years ago i got to know him through a mutual friend at United matches and he became good friends with me and LS26BLADE mainly between 2000 and 2003, and did a couple of seasons where he didn't miss a game home or away.

In the summer of 2003, he seemed to completely disappear off the radar, after the play off final we would meet up regularly to go for a drink, then for the first game of 2003/04 he didn't turn up for the first game of the season and just seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.

He would be around 34-35 now, he lived at Fulwood and was the son of an English mother and Pakistani father, and studied at Nottingham uni between around 1998-2002.

I know it sounds a bit vague but i had was reminded earlier of an away day back in around 2002 and then remembered Azeem and just wondered what the hell happened to him. It would be great if someone on here remembers him or knows him and can fill in the blanks as he was a good mate and his mystery disappearance has puzzled me and a couple of others for years

He became Prince Akeem of Zamunda and starred in a film called Coming To America...

Have you tried Linked In ? I find it the most useful source for "lost" people.

If you aren't on Linked In, you might need to register to view some of the profiles.

Didn't he change his name to Abdullah and move to Saudi? Last I heard, he was wanted by Interpol for deception..

:D

I remember him, I was in Nottingham around the same time and would often bump into him on trains to away games. I remember him always being with a tall dark haired bloke. No idea what happened to him though I'm afraid.

I travelled with Azeem to most home and away games for around four years 1999-2003 (I'm almost certainly the tall dark haired bloke that Bath refers to). He actually studied at Nottingham Trent uni (I was at Nottingham) but we got talking on a train back to Nottingham after a match, and went to matches together from then on. I was with him at the 2003 play-off final, and was in touch with him leading up to the following season. We arranged, in our usual way, to buy our season tickets in adjacent seats at the back of the kop for the 2004 season (the seats were irrelevant, because neither Azeem nor I ever sat down at football, but you know what I mean) and I know that he did buy his season ticket. Before the first game he contacted me to say he had sustained some sort of injury (I forget what!) and had returned his season ticket as he would miss too many games for it to be worthwhile. From that point he became uncontactable.

Despite having been to most United games since, I've never seen him, so I'm confident he no longer watches the Blades. A mutual friend happened to run into him on a train in Manchester some time in 2004, and asked him whether he was OK, and he said that he was.

Whether the 2003 play-off final was just too depressing, and he chucked it all in, or whether, as Rodders suggests, he never really liked us, I don't know. ;) In any case, he was a great travelling companion for those years, and I'll always remember those years as my happiest supporting United, not least because of Azeem's friendship. No doubt he had good reasons for taking his leave when he did, and if he does occasionally sneak a look at a certain Blades message board from time to time, then I wish him all the best.

I can't take it anymore, the closet door is ajar.......... I am Spartacus Azeem.

I didn't mean to leave without saying goodbye, but I knew it was always going to be harder to be left behind than to be the one to go.............................

Forgive me my friends.

By the way, for those who used the old SUISA viewpoints forum, he posted there under the name of "Charlie Brown" (good grief....)
