Alright chaps, where's the best place for away fans to drink around the ground? Before Christmas we'd sold 1700 of our 1790 tickets so I don't know if we'll get anymore or whether it will be POTD? Sure there will be a lot of Wilder love emanating from the away end all afternoon.

The Howard outside the station is a typical away fans pub if you're in a big group and a bit rowdy.

If you're in a small group and just want an ale or two en-route from the station then the world's your oyster. The Rutland two mins walk from the station in good. Others will add their own preferences here, but the choice is good. Just avoid the pubs directly adjacent to the ground as you may not be welcomed in away colours.

Pleased you've sold a lot of tickets as the Boxing Day game saw 25.5k Blades and a couple of hundred away fans. It's a bit odd.

Not much time for several beers with it being a 1pm KO so Wetherspoons (there are a few) might be the best bet if you want more than a couple!

Ntfc, city centre, West Street, division Street, lots of good real ale boozers, as long as you arnt looking for trouble (sure you andyour lot are not looking for trouble) you will be made welcome, real ale capital of the country, Sheffield folk, you will enjoy it, enjoy proper northern hospitality, a proper football ground and fans.good luck for the rest of the season, and thanks for helping give CW a good apprenticeship :)

Fully concur with this .

Drinking around the ground wouldn't be a good idea as even if you did manage to get in , getting served will be a fucking nightmare if boxing day is anything to go by .

Don't worry though , you've an entire city centre to explore . Just remember to leave yourselves a good 10 - 15 minutes to walk to the ground .

Great effort on the ticket sales by the way . It'll be a cracking atmosphere and aside from the result , I hope you all have a great day out .

Oldham fans drank in The Old Crown on London Rd with no issues.
You could use the Tap Pub on the railway station itself, loads of real ales to choose from.
Problem will be the pubs will all be packed from 2 pm. Have a safe, but pointless journey.

Well it's alright if they'll be packed by 2pm as we'll all be in the ground watching us go 3-0 up at half time!

Cheers for all the suggestions, assume Wilder/Knill/Prestridge are going down a storm?

I was kinda hoping to still be watching the match myself around that time ;)

Loving them pal. Wilder is a Blade.

Dunno about the best pub but if you can find one that sells Belgian Blue, you must try a pint of that.

Best bets for Ale will be The Howard or The Globe, both bog standard pubs but within spitting distance of the station (on other side of the steel wave sculpture as you leave the station). Both pubs are set aside for away fans.

What Wilder has done in six months is quite amazing. Done with style too. You would have been 3-0 up at half time if we still had Nigel Adkins - at least now we'll give you a game. :)

Forget what some of 'um are saying, get yer sen in Cricks directly across from the away end or any of the pubs on London Road, whatever you do don't go in any of those real ale boozers that are getting mentioned, they're shite, it'll be full of those beardy f***ers quaffing beer that stinks of shite and more importantly there's no chance of a decent lager like Fosters, Carling, Amstel, et al.

The Royal Standard is traditionally welcoming for away fans and it's a decent size too.
Look for the big church (St Marys) just outside the ground and continue down that road.

As others have said, depends on your approach. If you want a typical away day experience (wearing colours openly, lots of lager and being openly jovial with fellow supporters - and I make no judgment on that, it's pretty much what we do away!), your options are probably limited to the pubs opposite the train station.

If you're a bit more discreet I'd normally say the world is your oyster, Sheffield is packed full of decent real ale pubs. The early kick off complicates things a bit however (I'd normally recommend a trip to Kelham Island and an Uber but distance, date and K.O. time makes that a bad idea!). Still lots of pubs around the city centre where you'll meet like-minded people, and who serve good beer.

No idea which open early, but (if you're the second type of fan) I'd recommend The Sheffield Tap (on the station), Dev Cat, Red Deer, Red Lion, The Rutland, The Tap and Tankard, maybe the Sentinal Brewery (they brew beer on site, and it's expensive, and they have security on the door. But damn, it's bloody good beer!).

As a rule of thumb, so long as your not looking for trouble, stay off London Road and Bramall Lane pubs and you should be fine.

Apologies, so used to the shortened term I forgot you're not local: "Dev Cat" = Devonshire Cat

Echo what TD mentioned re the Royal Standard, less than 10 mins walk to the ground, decent selection of beers etc including some really real ales if you prefer your beer marinated in Brut and also proper ales like J Smiths ,and welcoming to respectful away fans, colours no problem.

How about the rising sun at nether green, ask for the Snowman, say 23,482 and you might get five free pints, mind you that would be after the game, however tell him you are Sean beans tattoo and you might get lucky.

Ntfcfan looks like you've plenty of suggestions for pubs, great that you're also bringing a decent following as well. We could be looking at a 25k+ attendance again for this game so should be a cracking atmosphere.

Should make up for you lot coming away from the game empty handed! ;)

The Sheaf Island Wetherspoons does it but it's not great in there. Bestest, nearest one that does BB is the Nelson, back of the new Fire Station on Arundel Gate. Be chocka with Blades though!

Don't get so pissed on strong Northern ale that you can't concentrate on the match!

Welcome to Sheffield regardless. Have fun, enjoy the hospitality, take your team's inevitable defeat with equanimity and then have a safe journey back home to Northampton.

;)

Don't think the Tap allows fans in colours,or at least it didn't...so Howard,Globe or if more time upto the Dev Cat...or maybe Royal Standard.

Was just about to post that, the Sheffield Tap at the station doesn't allow football colours.
