Can you remember some of the horseless carriages youve travelled in to watch the blades

I used to go to a number of away games with some older guys that lived on the scowerdons estate, one of them had an old VW beetle. There used to be a few other cars that went with us, remember coming back from Chesterfield after a night match, possibly county cup (memory is shot! would be about 35 years ago though) they came the back way home and decided to play chicken, turning their lights of to see who cracked first! Finished off in the Phoenix on White Lane. Happy days!

Learned to drive in father-in -law's Zephyr 6, the model after yours. Wonderful car, not easy as a learning car ( column change, jumped out of second gear a lot) but great for a young couple -bench front seat!

First car Ford Anglia in the days we went to every game ( late 60's). Then a Hillman Imp, Cortina Mark 2 1600E, Saab 99, Marina Coupe TC, then company cars Fiat 131 Mirrafiori, Montego Estate with the rear facing seats for the kids ( both big Blades travellers in their time), Peugeot 504 and BMW's thereafter.

Looking at classic Ford Anglias these days I can't believe we used to travel back late on Saturday nights from places like Southampton, often with 4 in, no motorways, after a couple of pints, driving at 60 mph plus on A roads- frightening.

Sometimes train.
When I could drive, I drove my fiesta upload_2015-11-20_9-41-30.jpeg
I crashed it on the way to Notts Forest (1992? Cloug senior's last game in charge, we won 2-0, we secured our top flight status and condemned Forest to Division 2). As I swapped details with the other driver a coach full of Blades went past, saw me in my SUFC shirt and started singing nananana he's a blade. Car was driveable and we got to the game on time.

One Saturday in the late 80's we were in our friends' house in Wetherby and suddenly decided to go to Crystal Palace away, it was 11.30am.

We'd forgotten the Palace ground was on the wrong side of the river and were battling time all the way. We got stopped and were given a speeding ticket on the way but the cop was a football fan ( Leicester) and processed it as quick as he could.

We arrived late, parked quickly, started watching the game at 3.30pm, crap game, 0-0, had a parking ticket on the windscreen, came straight home. Happy days.

Sorry but no photo; black Audi GT5 (same shape as the old Quattro but 2 wheel drive).

Speeding ticket and parking ticket. Bit costly to watch us draw against Palace. Tbh, I'd have been pretty pissed off.

Nice. Did it have furry dice?
No. I didn't even have furry dice for my Mark 1 or Mark 3 Escorts. Never had furry dice, private reg plate, non-standard wheels, spoilers, lights, anti-nausea strips or any other cheesy appendages. I may be a bit of a chav but I've never felt it necessary to draw attention to it.

My first away match was at Leicester in March 1970. Travelled in my dad's big black car (forgot what kind of car it was- I am terrible with types of car) but for most of the away matches in the early 1970s, my dad and I travelled in Bransons coaches organised by the SUSC Dronfield branch (headquarters was the Midland pub- now Dronfield Arms)
