Out of curiosity, and intrigued by how isolated Norwich appear to be, I've put together a quick analysis of away day distances for the coming season's Championship.

Luton will be Norwich's shortest journey, a 206 mile round trip.

We'll be one of half a dozen teams clocking up around 2,500 miles over the season.

Swansea and Sunderland will be covering the best part of twice as many miles as us. Unsurprisingly the longest trip in the division will be when they meet.

Distance is measured in miles, driving from one stadium to the other.

Not too bad then .... apart from all the midweek night matches away at the furthest away !!

It’s that apparent isolation that gives Norwich such a huge catchment area and make them easily one off the best supported teams in the league.

I can at least see the reasoning for that given that they've said, at least in lower leagues, it is deliberate. The diehards will go to every game. Those who might or might not go to an away game may not make such a long trip even if it is on a Saturday. Hence from a financial perspective it makes sense to schedule the shorter away trips on a Saturday to maximise revenue. Sure, this was in the context of divisions 3/4 where matchday revenue makes up a much higher percentage of overall turnover (this revelation was in relation to Carlisle always playing Plymouth midweek), but you can see that it may well be applicable even in the Championship
