Not convinced Johnston is all that to be honest.

He was pretty unconvincing at Sunderland.

But if we could unwind the Trusty deal then I would not be against this. He doesn’t look like he’ll make the step up.

Apart from Hamer, if we can unwind all last summer’s window and come out flat, then that is a decent outcome, unless we then replace it with loads of new, but still shit, replacements.

Puts a lot of pressure on RND staying fit and I'm not sure why we would make that assumption.

I actually like having Auston Trusty in the squad as he's about as good as you could expect to have as cover at this level (POTY in his Championship team the season before joining us).

My guess is (from the rumours) we'd replace him with an ageing Paul Dummett that's played little-to-no football for Newcastle in recent seasons. Not something I'd be particularly keen on.

Unless Wilder really thinks Trusty will not be upto it at this level, I would be cautious about moving Trusty on, until we see how RND sustains his fitness. Maybe better to look at a January move.

Very disappointing that our £5m CB has not developed and can't displace Robinson whom many on here agree is not good enough to play in a two.
If we lose Anel & Trusty , what remains ?
Gilchrist , currently deputising at RB.
Souttar who looks fine.
Robinson , not really good enough but been made captain.
RND who's not really proven his return to fitness after a long absence.

Even if we are permanently changing to 2 CBs , that looks a weak defence dept.

And we don't own the better pair.

So imho , both Anel & Trusty need replacing if they go.

I mean, he hasn't even had the opportunity yet to play a game in the Championship for United. The only game he's played this season was in the League Cup, and he scored a goal there.
Would be a shame to give up on him so soon, imo. He seems a likeable guy and a true professional. And he showed at Birmingham that he's not completely out of his depth in this league.

Sure, you could argue that if he's any good, why can't he even get past Robinson? But sometimes all it takes is an opportunity.
