This..... just this.

He's had a good few knockers this season, me included. But have to say that I am impressed by his recent performances... he hasn't hit the back of the net, but his work rate has been Bob on.....

Bit as opposed to another McBurnie thread persè, this thread is more about attitude and reactions...

This is how I want our players to leave the pitch during a game.... these are the expressions that I want!

If they have the face of a child who is playing jumpers for goalposts on a Sunday afternoon... only for his mum to call him in for a bath, ready for school on Monday..... then I am satisfied, because it shows it want it and that they are in it.

At this level play to his strengths and he's a good striker and there is a reason we bought him for the fee we paid. (We weren't the only one's after him)

He's got baggage off the field although this isn't to say he's an absolute idiot.
This season he has generally struggled with fitness issues, inc. having a bout of covid too.

A fit McBurnie at Champ level gets you 15-25 goals a season if playing regularly. It will happen again for him even if it's not here because he's only 24/25.

If he continues to play he will score before the season is out.

Completely agree with you and I appreciate the work McB puts in....but I suspect that face is because he was throwing up all the previous day/night and felt shit....but still battled for the cause......a fact the McB haters will gladly ignore.

Disagree. I think he is a busted flush and a misfit in this side.

He needs a fresh start elsewhere with a system he can play in. And we need some money back on him, because he has shown nowt to justify a transfer fee of any worth, let alone a sniff from another club.

I'm not sure McBurnie has done anything like enough to justify this thread.

On the basis of effort, Ben Osborn should have 2,000 threads.
If you took the time to read the thread, you would see that I stated that this wasn't about McBurnie perse, but about the attitude I want to see from players. 😂😂👍🤦

I don't think he is a misfit, I think Mousset was though and it's being further proven in his loan spell now.
However I do think that a fresh start for McBurnie would probably make sense for the individual but possibly not from a club perspective.

Thing is for the reasons I've just said I feel he will come good, but possibly not here overall. That said I think he can contribute before the season end, and if he is here next season a good pre-season could be just the ticket for him too.

I do half expect us to move him on in the summer for a few million, him do fairly well at where ever he moves too and we basically buy high, sell low.

People seem to ignore how much he contributes to our defence. He’s worth his place for that alone at the moment when our defence is a bit makeshift.

Yes his best position is CB because as a striker he doesnt score goals
Get rid get him off the wage bill hes done FA to warrant his price tag and the wages we have spunked on him

First goal for us on Saturday will be his !

I hear this, time after time after time.

This isn't a goal drought, like DCL is having at Everton. DCL actually looks threatening and gets chances. McBurnie is so out of step with the play and mismatched as a center forward it's patently obvious why he's never on the scoresheet. Couple that with his continuous shithousing and the sum total is fuck all.

I think people need to wake up and smell the coffee. He needs to find work elsewhere, in a team that can accommodate his style of play, whatever the fuck that is.

I think first half against QPR, in comparison to his previous performances, albeit a very low bar, he had a decent game. Got involved, moved, made himself available and was integral in a lot of our good play. 2nd half he was pretty anonymous, but I saw nothing that would suggest he’s going to score any more goals in the remaining games, than he’s scored so far in his United career.

Whatever people think the stats don’t lie, he isn’t what we need, he needs moving on asap. Let’s face it, our immediate forward line options are incredibly weak and in need of some urgent attention, certainly before next season, whatever division we find ourselves in

I would hope so, but he’s made 26 appearances and not scored yet, so with 6 to go I’m not full of confidence

Robinson has made 3 fewer appearances, as a defender, and is outscoring a £20m striker 2-0

Nowt against the lad, but a good goal to game ratio for a striker should be 1:2 (20 goals a season) a bad ratio I would say would be 1:4 ( 5 or 6 a season)

To be on zero imo is indefensible

I know some appearances are off the bench, but that’s when he’s fresh and defenders are leggy, surely one off his nob end or scuffed shot should have happened by now?

This - exactly.

I just don't don't think he is the right fit for our side and our style of play. And he shithouses.

The sooner he gets another offer and we claw something back the better for all parties.

See also Berge, Brewster and we put Burke and Mousett out to pasture.

The whole adventure of us going up to the PL has been very bittersweet.

Much like Mousse, McB never seems to be fit, although both on their day are totally unplayable. Trouble is their day doesn't come often enough.
As a (Sunday morning), Premier League medal winner, I'd hate to play against McB. He's unorthodox in the extreme.

I accept much of the criticism of him, but when did we last put in a decent cross in front of him to attack ?
He was a decent part of our first season success in the Premiership, but you may be right that he can more easily find that form again in new surroundings.

Oh, I fully accept that he, as a player, isn't to blame for all his lack of proficiency with regard finding success as a goalscorer. We have been serially bobbar fucking about playing passing drills out by the dugouts, endlessly wanking about with the ball using Norwood as a distributor and failing to get the ball (properly and accurately) in as a dangerous cross or threaded pass.

But a few things:

1. When McBurnie gets a half chance, he invariably half hits it, doesn't get venom into the header or misses the target entirely. Compare Billy Sharp to that who, although he misses a lot and fluffs a few, hits the fucking back of the net with many.

2. McBurnie, for some reason, considers himself some sort of Droghbaesque playmaker. Didier was skilled outside the box and deadly inside it. He could go fetch and carry, beat five player, lay off and be on the end of Hazard's return pass to clip it into the net. Two, maybe three times in a game in fact. Similar contemporaries were also gifted. Kanu, Henri ... Kane. Their work rate and vision outside the box is what makes them what they are, pretty much fucking bomb proof with goals to games rations as proof. McBurnie is pretty ineffective as a playmaker. He is slow, not just in the legs department but in the vision one too, and lacks spatial finesse. He doesn't belong anywhere except inside the 18 yard box. Leave the flair stuff to MGW and Berge, leave the fetching and carrying to Fleck and Norwood and the flank stuff to the wingbacks.

3. Shithousery. We love a committed player. We love someone who is in the wars and wears the badge with every challenge. But for fucks sake. Get into the box, draw the tackle, make it look like you've been fucking fouled. Bring the player onto you and get him to make the mistake. Get out of the refs face - he's not given it and possession has changed hands and now they are off up towards our goal. Get the fuck up, put your arms down and your bottom lip away and get on with the fucking game.

4. Headers. It's all very well waving Fodders and the back three to pump the ball up the pitch but come to some agreement with where its going next after it's left your fucking melon, because currently, you are just gifting their players with the second ball. MGW, Berge, Fleck, the wingbacks are nowhere near where it ends up. You win most headers in the game, make at least 50% of them find our players instead of benignly finding theirs. It's needless possession-turning-over.

Today I learnt that any topic with a reference in any way towards Oli Mcburnie......Will become a debate about Oli Mcburnie 😂😂
It's like we have our own version of Godwin's law but instead of Nazi's it's OMB. I'm claiming it as mine.

GregBlade's Law : The longer a thread goes on, the likelihood that someone mentions OMB increases.

Ok. A reasoned set of arguments identifying why you don’t rate him!
Probably the only time he will be compared to those greats in para 2 !
If I see him to speak to tomorrow I will pass on your best wishes for a successful career elsewhere.
